Re: 6910, newish problem, leaky group handle

Techo is correct - Mine is the same...

And for the record Wushoes, I flush all the time - a generous one at that, but unless I seriously updose, the shot will blonde early and I find this really frustrating...

So I investigate and pull the Naked PF out - using a firm tamp using a pullman, carefully distributing.

Step 1: Normal dosing - I find that pour always starts at the back of the basket (handle end) first, so it blondes before the rest of the basket starts to release the espresso. I end the extraction, pull out the PF and look at the puck - perfectly flat, no holes until I notice at the back of the basket I see a slight indent (not a hole) so I press at it and is indeed slightly softer than the rest of the puck.

Step 2 : Updosing, courser grind, tighter to fit in the group - pull the shot... picture perfect. A solid colour from start to finish. The puck at the end was hard - all the surface. This, via updosing will wear out the Group Collar which is what Im experiencing now.

I suspect for some reason the Sunbeam hits the rear of the puck harder than the other areas.. What Id like to know is, is this a normal thing with most machines or is it a EM6910 specific?

    Cheers,
    Marc

Re: 6910, newish problem, leaky group handle

      Hi
I speak hastily and out of turn- I do not have a EM69xx but I noticed from a picture (on page 2) of the underneath of the group what I think is the hole that brewing water enters.  It appears to be at the back.
It crossed my mind that a small ss plate could act a a spreader behind the filter in front of the hole(s).
This would spread the incoming water over the boiler side of the screen.  Then up dosing and wearing of the collar may not be necessary.
If the idea is theoretically okay it may be necessary to made the plate wavy (corrugated) so it let the brewing water flow over it easily.

the water enters through the middle of the bolt and sprays out onto the top filter through the holes shown

the soft spot you have mention at the rear of the cake may be under the hole at back left in the allo housing, under the showers. this is the exhaust port going to the 3 way. this is where the pressure is releasd from the pf

Thank you for the hole correction:   It indicates that the problem may be as below:

I notice that when I fill the PF sometimes the grinds do not spread evenly and when I tamp it looks good - however recently had a similar problems as originally mentioned in the post.

I pushed my finger down around the edge of the basket to check the tamp and found in some places the grinds were not tamped evenly.  If this happens the brew water finds the easiest way out and the brew is flawed.

Techo, do you have any pics of the assembly order of the showerhead, blue seal etc. What is the order?

              Hi Divad
Have a couple of shots, of the No1 and No2 screens. But its pretty straight forward.
              1. Screw in No12 Nut. "Clinch , dont over tighten" Photo1
              2. Place No 1 Screen on blue group seal. Photo2
              3. Place No 2 screen over top No1 screen. Photo3
              4. Insert group seal into group housing and screw in Phillips screw.
              Voila

              Cheers Andrew
