    Re: new member needs help

Ok so after adjusting the grinder to the highest setting and noticing no difference in the grind i took apart the grinder and re-assembled making sure everything matched up and was seated properly. Loaded it up and set the grinder to about 15 and ground away. Results were pretty much the same as before, so i changed the grinder to 18 and got a visibly larger grind, loaded it up and the flow was much better so i think i am about right, will try a higher setting tonight and see what happens!

Thanks all for the advice, will keep you all posted.

Also make sure youre using the single wall baskets if youre using freshly ground coffee. Fresh coffee and a heavy tamp in the dual wall baskets (AKA pressurised baskets) will produce something like this.

These machines can take a bit of priming to get them started first time.  There is no information(well not that I found) describing this anywhere, and so it is a bit worrying for a new owner.  Mine took about a dozen+ attempts to get that water to come through initially, but when it started to come though it did so with only dribbles at first. I would let it run for a bit,.. rest it few a few seconds,.. run it again and so on,.. and with each run it gradually increased the flow until I thought it was running as it should. I guess you could always put a measuring jug under to make sure the double or single amount of water is the right amount, I didnt bother though.  After this priming (and yes... I thought I had a dud machine for a while) it has never looked back.

Do the priming without the PF in place,.. as with any new machine.. it is always a good idea to run a whole lot of water through the machine first,.. then a couple of sink shots (grounds in PF and dump shot into sink) and youre right to go.

    Re: new member needs help

    hi Markyj, and welcome!
    dry puck, and no water?
    mmm....
first, turn on the machine, let it heat up and then turn on the brew switch without putting the portafilter in ... if water comes out of the group, the machine works

if water comes out when there is no grinds in the pf, and none when the pf is loaded, it is very probable the grinds are the problem.
try backing off your grinder a few notches at a time, until you get good flow... then decide whether the extraction you get is getting in the ballpark and adjust the grind by one notch at a time, up or down, to get it perfect

    keep us posted!

    new member needs help

    Hi Everyone!

I am a new member who has just brought an em6910 and a 0450 after looking through a number of posts and deciding what I could afford with my budget. Anyway I am having a few issues with my first few attempts, I am getting the pressure up to about 1 oclock on the dial but basically nothing was coming out, does this mean my grind is too fine? Also the puck is quite dry when it comes out. Any help or advice would be much appreciated!
Working...
