Unfortunately Ive already read that far and your new coffee machine looks great... maybe down the track later on!! (in 6.5 years time?) ;-)
Your writings have also tempted me greatly about getting a roaster... but my wife says we dont need one. Maybe later down the track..... Id rather upgrade the grinder from the Rocky first and also get a PID.
I had a closer look at the internals and everything else seems to be ok except for the rest leaving markings on parts of the casing. There are also strange blue mark that runs around the connections on top of the boiler but I would think that thats nothing serious.

....... While its true that the rust wont affect the coffee the machine is still relatively new..........
Randy, love your website. I read a lot of it a month or so back and thats actually what made me decide to get a Silvia! :-)
I had my Silvia for 6.5 years and those clips showed no visible rust. If you bought that machine new then what probably happened is that the factory tested it and in shipping some of the water leaked out causing the rust. I would recommend thoroughly examining the internals of the machine with a strong lamp to be sure that there are no other areas affected.
I am glad you found my website useful.. If I influenced you in your purchase, be careful how far you read. You might end up with a Vibiemme Domobar Super and a Mazzer Kony!
Thanks Mal, Randy. Not sure if all the clips will be cleaned easily so I may just try to find other clips in a hardware store. While its true that the rust wont affect the coffee the machine is still relatively new and I dont want any rust showing on the exterior (at least so soon!) if I can help it.

Those clips are standard hardware items that should be available at any good hardware store. You could just wire brush them to remove the rust and spray them with a rust resistant paint. Certainly nothing to worry about. Be sure to check the black, steel framework in the machine for rust as well. Even that is nothing to worry about either, as the machine will fall to pieces before the frame will rust through.
Im pretty sure that s/s versions of these thread inserts are available.... Maybe contact a couple of sheet-metal shops in your locale to get an idea of where to look.....
I removed the top of my Silvia to have a look inside and I found that the clips for the 4 screws on the top were quite rusty. The rust was also rubbing off onto the top cover as well as the sides they were clipped to.
For the moment Ive replaced the top after scrubbing as much of the rust markings off the cover and sides without putting the clips back in. Ill most likely look for other clips as I cant screw the top back on without them but I was just wondering if this is a normal occurance.
