Before I bought the timer,  I woke up 45 minutes before my actual wake up time, quickly walked to the machine, turned it on, quickly jump back into bed before im fully awake. Sometimes its so quick I wake up not remembering my trip to the machine.

    ;D

My mistake, thought you had a 6910 for a moment there. Oh well back to teaching the dog to turn the machine on in the mornings...anyone know where I can get a cheap spider monkey?

Hi Viviane, Im interested in your timer method. I purchased a timer for that exact purpose but thought the power button had to be pressed to start the machines warm up process. How do you get it to fire up without pressing the power button?
My machine is always switched on, power to it is regulated by the timer. The only time I ever switch the power button off is when Im away for a few days - I wouldnt rely on the timer unless Im around to check the machine.

Im not sure if thats what you are asking, if it isnt Ill try again.
With the Sunbeam EM6910 you need to press the power button every time to switch it on once power has been applied, but with Vivianes Silvia Im guessing it has an on/off switch that you can just leave in the "on" position?
Im not sure theres a way to get the Sunbeam to switch on without someone being there to press the power button...

I keep my machine on a timer - it switches on 30 minutes before my alarm goes off.  This gives the machine plenty of time to warm up.  They cost less than $10 at the supermarket.  If you only turn the machine on when you want coffee, try touching the group as it warms up - when its too hot to touch its good to go.
Thanks for this tip. I had my machine on for 30 mins this morning and it really improved the results

Yvonne, coffee machines tend to be the same - the light goes out when the boiler or some other mechanism reaches a temperature - this means that the water will be hot enough. Problem is that the water travels through a whole lot of piping and through the group - these need to be hot enough as well. The group in particular is meant to keep the water hot as it travels through the coffee into the cup, and is the last part of the machine to warm up.

M@, Im interested in the warming-up time issue. I was discussing this with Ken and relating it to my oven, which has its own thermostat, and the light goes out at a given temp, say 180, but if I put a separate oven thermometer in, it may take another 15 mins for the oven to get to that temp! And I had been wondering why my cakes were taking longer to bake! I must stress that this took me only about 7 years to figure out (Im a slow learner?)

Thanks David - again, if this can be tested on a retail machine, Id be interested what you find...

Id like to see that test done on a "retail" machine.. not a deliberate setup machine...
Results of temperature stability testing on a stock retail unit here: http://coffeetamper.com.au/**/review...ture-stability

May be another silly question Vonkad, but how long are you leaving the machine on to warm up? The lights go out after 5 minutes or so, but the machine isnt really ready to use for at least 15 (and preferably more like 30).

This was a 2nd hand account from David Makin who was at HOST. I do have access to a scace device at work, but no em6910.

Thanks all, again, and yes, the cup had been properly warmed up, with very hot water from my kettle. Thermometer in cup as water was flowing in, probably being a little anal at this stage, will report back in a few days!
Dont forget water temp from the group will drop a remarkable amount of temp once it has left the group. So 66 deg c in the cup doesnt surprise me at all
