Thanks guys, pretty sure it's teflon tape and I just made a coffee with no dramas!

Plumbers tape might melt - most of it is not for high temp application. Check what you have and if needed check the manufacturer web page.

"teflon tape" is good for a couple of hundred celsius, it will be fine with coffee.

The other option is Loctite, it will err, "lock the threads tight" in the position you want.

    Hey Journeyman,

They tighten past the correct position which is annoying - I put some plumbers tape in the grooves and it seems to have fixed the problem - hope it won't melt into the coffee!

Might have to look at getting a new portafilter!

It's metal-to-metal so I am not sure what might be causing the alignment issue. 2 things come to mind - something in the gap stopping a proper tightening or cross-threading.

Do they tighten past the correct position or don't quite reach it? Try using a stiff brush to clean in the threads of both parts. Maybe a washer as a spacer to stop the screw-in earlier to allow alignment?

Hey Journeyman, thanks for your reply. Graeme is long gone!

Did you remove the Graeme as well? If not maybe it is preventing the spouts from screwing back in properly? I undid mine with multigrips with cloth to protect the finish, squeezed the Graeme lugs together to push it out, then tightened the spouts to just more than finger tight and they lined up perfectly.

    Hey all,

I removed the spouts on the EM6910 portafilter handle as they were loose and to give them a clean. Now they aren't aligning properly - has anyone please got any helpful hints as to how to re-align them? Otherwise I might be in the hunt for a new portafilter handle!

    Cheers

Yesterday I took the graeme out of the PF that came with the new 6910(I use the old one that had already been modified).

I had no trouble at all undoing the spout by hand and the graeme came out without a struggle with no more than a firm push with a spoon handle.
