  • Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

    Hi Everyone,

I purchased a 6910 recently. It is leaking water from the rear of the machine at the base. The machine also does not seem to build up much pressure when making a coffee so I am not getting the nice "honey" type flows that I was able to obtain at the Sunbeam Course.

Is anyone else aware of this problem? More importantly, anyone know a fix for it?

    thanks in advance,

    Daniel

    Welcome to Coffee Snobs.

Have you made sure the water tank is firmly in place?

I havent done the course but have found that I need the guage to hit the start of the red zone to get "honey" type pours.

Rumour has it that the machines at the course arent straight out of the box.

Just call Sunbeam; Ive always found them helpful.

      Hey Daniel,

where exactly is the water leaking from? If its right at the back, theres a chance that the water reservoir isnt seated properly, and water is leaking from the valve between it and the machine.

If its from underneath/inside the black plastic liner in the reservoir cavity - ie inside the machine - its a warranty job. Ive had recurring problems with leaks inside the machine that still havent been properly fixed

        Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

I think the leak is coming from inside the machine.

I simply can not get the pressure up enough to properly extract the coffee. I have written to sunbeam 3 days ago by email and still have not had a response. I originally reported the fault to sunbeam in the first month of ownership of the machine and 3 weeks later it is still leaking.

So far I am not impressed. The customer service staff seem willing to help however nothing actually seems to get done.

Id call em via their Customer Service toll free number mate, usually a lot quicker and a lot less fuss.....

            Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

Im having the same leaking water problem, I did a descale over the weekend and the water leaked all over the bench. I have just spoken to the Sunbeam tech support and am awaiting their reply.

As for the low pressure, check that you are using the single floor filter-basket, then try reducing the size of the grind, increasing the amount of coffee in the basket (it should only be a couple of mm below the lip) and increasing the pressure of the tamp. If you are grinding your own coffee in the Sunbeam 480 grinder, no.12 works well for me. Best of luck....
            Cheers

              Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

Id strongly recommend discontinuing use of your machines and unplugging them from the power point, guys!

240 volts and water is a bad combination!

Call Sunbeam and tell them about the leaking problem. Make sure you are specific about the water coming from inside the machine, otherwise they will think you just havent seated the reservoir correctly.

You shouldnt have to wait for a response - they should book it into a repair agent while you are on the phone. If they dont, ask them to! Its clearly broken; under the terms of the warranty they are obligated to fix it.

Ive had the same problem fixed twice and am currently trying to convince them to fix it a third time. If theyre not familiar with this fault, then they should be!

Sunbeam returned my call and its booked into the local service agent, its coming towards the end of the warranty period, so if it becomes an ongoing problem Ill be interested to see how they approach the subject of billing.....

Just be nice to them and they should be nice to you.

They replaced a troublesome 6900 for me with a new 6910.

I love the rolling line at the bottom of your ID. Thats the first time that I have noticed it.

Yesterday I received a call from Sunbeam. I got the details of the service centre. All looked promising. Turned up today at the service centre, they had no idea I was coming.

7 to 14 days for repair for a machine that was only a day old before I saw the original fault.

Do Not Buy Sunbeam - Be WARNED !!!!!!!!

                        Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

                        I understand your frustration.

I had the previous Sunbeam in for repairs that lasted 5 days before it broke down again.

However Im a bit confused as to why you expected the repair centre to know you were coming and what difference it would make.

7 to 14 days sounds like their usual quote.

As for your warning, its a bit over the top on the strength of two known similar problems.

The 6910 at work, which Sunbeam gave us as a replacement for said previous machine, has been going well for 6 months now and is being used by more and more people all the time.

I estimate it is currently doing up to 2 dozen coffees a day.

After so much use its now in need of a gasket change and the steam wand is losing its chrome from the number of times its been wiped, but thats it.

The reason I thought that the service centre would know of problem was because the Customer Service Staff at Sunbeam made a big deal over the phone saying that they would help me out and that they would contact the service centre to assist to have my issues resolved quickly. Clearly this was not the case.

As for sunbeam. Three of these machines are owned by people I work with. 2 of the 3 have issues with one being replaced. A 66% failure rate.

Ill see what happens when it comes back but I am certainly not going to put up with multiple trips to the service centre for a machine that is supposed to be their best.

Had a Gaggia about 4 years old - replaced with the 6910. Bought it on sale for $559 from DJs. Had it for one week - noticed that water would drip from the hot water wand whenever I made espresso. Rang Sunbeam and was told to take it back to DJs for a new one. Got a new machine. Unpacked and out of the box, ready to go, no drip from hot water wand ... only to find that when using the hot water wand, water would start coming out of the portafilter water outlet. Took it back to DJs. Was offered a third new machine. Decided on a refund instead. Personally would NOT go for the 6910.

Too many quality control issues with the 6910 - you never know what youll get. Read http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1213336232 - after a few machines

If you can - go and get a refund given the problems youre having.

I went and picked up the Rancilio Silvia with an Iberital Challenge grinder (was my first choice in the first place) - from Di Bartolis (on the left). Couldnt be happier - made my first cuppa tonight on the Silvia with freshly grounded beans. Im glad I didnt get the 6910 and spent a bit more on the Silvia.

                              Hello eugeh,

I hear you. Feels like it is too late now. Sunbeam messed me around with the original complaint which meant that the store wont accept the machine.

It is currently with the service centre, 7 days so far.

A message was left on my mobile on Thursday stating that they would call me back. No call was received.

                              Problematic machine, disappointing customer service.
