    Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

    As an update.

I was called on Monday to let me know that the service centre would be working on the machine. Heard nothing all week. Called the service centre back this afternoon.

Ooops sorry, we forgot to call you. Due to stock take, can not pick up machine until Monday.

Arrrrrrggggggghhhhhh.........This is one of the worst customer experiences I have ever seen. In a previous life I worked as a Customer Service Manager and even then I did not see such poor service as this.

Cant wait to get it back so I can get rid of this machine and the very disappointing customer experience that goes with it.

Will be the Silvia at this stage. Will also pick up the matching grinder.

While I was there I decided to buy another machine instead.  The service at the service centre was brilliant and I will be selling the 6910 when it is finally fixed.
Ive had my 6910 for 11 months with no problems, so I guess Ive been lucky.

So Daniel, may I ask what machine you bought?

The service seems to have gone out the window lately from what Ive been reading.

In the week before last Christmas they replaced for me an old 6900 with a brand new 6910 after the 6900 lasted 5 days following a repair before one of the problems resurfaced.

15 days later still no machine.

Attended the service centre today and discussed my issues with them. They were able to replicate the leaking so they will hold the machine and try and fix it.

My recommendation to any newbies buying coffee machines -
1/- Buy your equipment from specialist coffee machine suppliers, their advice is worth bottling.
2/- Read forums such as this and see what issues others have had and make a decision on what you can live with.

For me, I am sick of Sunbeams issues and the poor customer service. They should have replaced the faulty machine straight away given that it was less than a week old when the machine first had problems.

    Hello eugeh,

I hear you. Feels like it is too late now. Sunbeam messed me around with the original complaint which meant that the store wont accept the machine.

It is currently with the service centre, 7 days so far.

A message was left on my mobile on Thursday stating that they would call me back. No call was received.

    Problematic machine, disappointing customer service.

    Daniel

    Re: Sunbeam 6910 Water Leaking

Had a Gaggia about 4 years old - replaced with the 6910. Bought it on sale for $559 from DJs. Had it for one week - noticed that water would drip from the hot water wand whenever I made espresso. Rang Sunbeam and was told to take it back to DJs for a new one. Got a new machine. Unpacked and out of the box, ready to go, no drip from hot water wand ... only to find that when using the hot water wand, water would start coming out of the portafilter water outlet. Took it back to DJs. Was offered a third new machine. Decided on a refund instead. Personally would NOT go for the 6910.

Too many quality control issues with the 6910 - you never know what youll get. Read http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1213336232 - after a few machines

If you can - go and get a refund given the problems youre having.

I went and picked up the Rancilio Silvia with an Iberital Challenge grinder (was my first choice in the first place) - from Di Bartolis (on the left). Couldnt be happier - made my first cuppa tonight on the Silvia with freshly grounded beans. Im glad I didnt get the 6910 and spent a bit more on the Silvia.

Yesterday I received a call from Sunbeam. I got the details of the service centre. All looked promising. Turned up today at the service centre, they had no idea I was coming.

7 to 14 days for repair for a machine that was only a day old before I saw the original fault.

Do Not Buy Sunbeam - Be WARNED !!!!!!!!
The reason I thought that the service centre would know of problem was because the Customer Service Staff at Sunbeam made a big deal over the phone saying that they would help me out and that they would contact the service centre to assist to have my issues resolved quickly. Clearly this was not the case.

As for sunbeam. Three of these machines are owned by people I work with. 2 of the 3 have issues with one being replaced. A 66% failure rate.

Ill see what happens when it comes back but I am certainly not going to put up with multiple trips to the service centre for a machine that is supposed to be their best.

    I understand your frustration.

I had the previous Sunbeam in for repairs that lasted 5 days before it broke down again.

However Im a bit confused as to why you expected the repair centre to know you were coming and what difference it would make.

7 to 14 days sounds like their usual quote.

As for your warning, its a bit over the top on the strength of two known similar problems.

The 6910 at work, which Sunbeam gave us as a replacement for said previous machine, has been going well for 6 months now and is being used by more and more people all the time.

I estimate it is currently doing up to 2 dozen coffees a day.

After so much use its now in need of a gasket change and the steam wand is losing its chrome from the number of times its been wiped, but thats it.

Just be nice to them and they should be nice to you.

They replaced a troublesome 6900 for me with a new 6910.

Sunbeam returned my call and its booked into the local service agent, its coming towards the end of the warranty period, so if it becomes an ongoing problem Ill be interested to see how they approach the subject of billing.....

Id strongly recommend discontinuing use of your machines and unplugging them from the power point, guys!

240 volts and water is a bad combination!

Call Sunbeam and tell them about the leaking problem. Make sure you are specific about the water coming from inside the machine, otherwise they will think you just havent seated the reservoir correctly.

You shouldnt have to wait for a response - they should book it into a repair agent while you are on the phone. If they dont, ask them to! Its clearly broken; under the terms of the warranty they are obligated to fix it.

Ive had the same problem fixed twice and am currently trying to convince them to fix it a third time. If theyre not familiar with this fault, then they should be!

Im having the same leaking water problem, I did a descale over the weekend and the water leaked all over the bench. I have just spoken to the Sunbeam tech support and am awaiting their reply.

As for the low pressure, check that you are using the single floor filter-basket, then try reducing the size of the grind, increasing the amount of coffee in the basket (it should only be a couple of mm below the lip) and increasing the pressure of the tamp. If you are grinding your own coffee in the Sunbeam 480 grinder, no.12 works well for me. Best of luck....
