Thanks, I realise it's two different options and it's been awhile since I have used an espresso machine so just wanted some info from people in the know before I pull the trigger on a new setup. I will try and get them side by side to see how they feel to use I reckon.
From memory, the PL91T has a smallish boiler on purpose, as it is sized to the heating element so that the element can keep up with the cold water being added. All this means is it can steam perpetually as long as you keep topping up the water tank. I would assume if it can do that with steam it can do it with brewing also. But you'll have to wait between steaming and brewing (not long because it's a small boiler).
You're comparing two very different machines here. A higher end single boiler with a lower end Hx. All the normal single boiler vs Hx differences apply. Given that the Lelit is a PID single boiler you should be getting better temperature regulation with it over the Oscar Hx.
Both have a standard 58mm group so accessories will be a breeze to find. Depending on whether you want the absolute best brew possible or of you want the convenience of brewing and steaming at the same time, or want to make coffee for larger parties quickly, the choice is more down to the SB vs Hx differences than the differences between these two machines.
Elliot sorry can’t help but had an Oscar 2 and the OPV add on isn’t needed but found it more consistent. Temp wise it needs a flush as found runs a bit hot but nothing bad. Casa espresso (forum sponsor) know the machine well and is really helpful so I’d recommend getting in contact with Antony
Hi All,
Long time reader of the threads here and thought I'd get some input.
I have owned a few different setups in the past, including Gaggia Classics, and a Commercial single group Verona, but have focused on Filter coffee for the last 3 years with a Helor hand grinder, V60, origin brewer etc.
I am now looking at investing in a new machine & grinder and want to keep it around the 2.5k mark total. (Ok 3k TOPS)
I am thinking of the Niche Zero Grinder as I don't do large quantity grinding and like to change coffees regularly & could also use it for filter coffee grinding.
As for the machine I am torn between the Oscar 2 & the Lelit PL91T, I have seen the Oscar in real life, although not used one, but yet to see the Lelit.
To me the Oscar seems bigger, a little ugly, longer to heat up, but... has great steam and seems solid although have heard you need a OPV fitment to bring it down to 9 bar?
The Lelit seems quicker to heat up, still not super pretty from photos, but better & smaller, with PID and can adjust pressure as it is? but I am concerned that the size of the boiler would be limiting? And what is the steam like? Also an extra 250-300 bucks.
Any input would be great and any other machines that you feel I have overlooked?
I would only be making maybe 2 coffees most morning occasionally 3-4 and steaming milk through the day for the wife's hot drinks...
Thanks Everyone!
