Re: EM6910 or Ikon
It comes down to how much money you want to spend. For me the EM6910 was a sweet spot in the price vs performance pay-off and Im extremely happy with it.
As a comparison, I use a commercial HX Electra machine at work (coupled to a Mazzer Mini E) and the quality of coffee between the two is indistinguishable for milk-based coffees (there is more variation between coffees from the same machine than there is between the 2 machines). Not bad for a machine that is 1/6 th the cost of the other.
The ability to pull shots and steam at the same time is the clincher for me as I dont have time to wait for the boiler to switch over in the mornings (which is what I had to do before I got the EM6910).

Re: EM6910 or Ikon
IF I had to choose between the Ikon, 6910, or Silvia - to me itd s no-brainer. Silvia is a far more solid machine. The other two defintely still fall in the appliance catagory. The Silvia will last way longer. Paired with a good grinder, its deadly.

Re: EM6910 or Ikon
The Rancilio Silvia was another option also, but after reading all the reviews on both machines I was leaning towards the 6910?

Re: EM6910 or Ikon
Personally would NOT go for the 6910. Bought it on sale for $559 from DJs. Had it for one week - noticed that water would drip from the hot water wand whenever I made espresso. Rang Sunbeam and was told to take it back to DJs for a new one. Got a new machine. Unpacked and out of the box, ready to go, no drip from hot water wand ... only to find that when using the hot water wand, water would start coming out of the portafilter water outlet. Took it back to DJs. Was offered a third new machine. Decided on a refund instead.
Too many quality control issues with the 6910 - you never know what youll get. Read http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1213336232 - after a few machines
Went and picked up the Rancilio Silvia with an Iberital Challenge grinder (was my first choice in the first place) - from Di Bartolis (on the left). Couldnt be happier - made my first cuppa tonight on the Silvia with freshly grounded beans. Im glad I didnt get the 6910 and spent a bit more on the Silvia. Definitely do not go for the 6910 even if it means saving some money.

Re: EM6910 or Ikon
Two different machines in terms of the internals and the price as well.
The 6910 is double the price of the Ikon and is a twin thermoblock system which allows you to pull your espresso and steam milk at the same time.
The Ikon is a boiler style machine with no heat exchanger so youre going to have to pull your shot then steam your milk.
Yes the grinder is very important and I would say take the ikon and buy a better grinder.
Ikon and maybe a compak K3 rather than 6910 and 0480.

EM6910 or Ikon
Hi coffee lovers
I am relatively new to this and have been trawling though this site doing my research, great site by the way, everyone seems to be rather helpful.............on that note
I am going to purchase myself a new coffee machine and grinder at the weekend. So just wanted to get an opinion of what machine may be better either the EM6910 or Ikon, they seem quite different but Im a little undecided. I am also now aware how important a good grinder is too & going to buy an EM0480 grinder, that seems to have good reviews at the entry level also.
Any comments much appreciated.Tags: None
