Hi all - I've had a Sunbeam EM6910 early model (like 06/07) with the older style steam tip etc that I just love and will be stored away for a rainy day. Over Christmas a friend of ours had a BES 920 he asked me to pull apart as it wasn't working. Turned out it just needed priming I think but we got to use it for a few weeks and I loved it. The steam wand was so much more powerful and drier. Plus the collar etc was easier to use. So I've had my eye on on Gumtree and finally picked up a BES 900 second hand last week. It's great and I love it too. My question is around servicing. I was quite confident servicing the EM6910, like turning it upside down and unscrewing and cleaning out the screens and group head(?) and also making shims to go above the seal when necessary (just out of a cereal box). Also, I descaled with vinegar regularly.
I have the service manual for the 900 but I know some snobs will have some better info (ie like the shims on the 6910) - what tips do you have for cleaning and descaling? Also does it ever need shims like the 6910?
Thanks so much
