  • Sunbeam EM7000 installed new group head but still continues to leak

Machine started to leak when being used head unit. Installed new group head seal and even added more shims to try and pack out but still continues to leak when being used from rear of head. Any ideas? Driving me nuts. Basket is tight as when I use it.

Machine is well used but well cared for.

When you say "installed new group head" did you just replace the seal or the collar or the whole group head?

Collar is probably worn. How many grams of coffee are you dosing? If you prepare a shot, wipe the shower screen dry, and lock the portafilter in, but then pull it out without starting the shot is the coffee disturbed at all?

Check where exactly it's leaking from. It's reasonably common that water leaks from the gap between the collar and the machine body rather than the portafilter and the collar.
An internal leak will appear, at a cursory inspection, as though it's from the portafilter seal however it may not be.

When this happens, it's a split fitting on the thermoblock, either the water in/out elbows or (hopefully not) the solenoid fitting.

Don't leave us hanging, what was the cause?
