  • Breville 920 O ring replaced but still leaks

    Hi All
A few months ago the breville started tripping the circuit breaker and I noticed stream escaping from the back of the warming tray.

After some research it looked like an O ring issue so I took the top off and found white deposits and some residual water. When I turned the machine back on I could see water coming from one of the sensor probes in the steam boiler and another leak from a water line to the stream boiler.

I have replaced both O rings, the sensor probe is now fine but the other continues to leak.

It currently has the metal washer and the red O ring but I've tried different combinations of just the O ring, 2 O rings and no washer, 2 O rings and the washer, 2 O rings and 2 washers but still it leaks.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

BTW the machine is about 4 years old

    Regards
    John

Photos would help. I assume you used the correct size O ring for each location. Did you apply any food safe silicone grease to the O rings?

Sounds a bit like mine. You can get buildup of calcium past the leak so the port has to be thoroughly cleaned out before replacing the seals. In my case I cleaned and replaced O-rings but the problem was the steam boiler itself leaking from the seam halfway up. It's in the garage now for spare parts.

Correct size o-ring? I have only ever used #007. However over the years, enterprising DIY'ers have measured their old o-rings out at #006. The problem with that is that you are measuring an o-ring that is already collapsed. Use #007. Sometimes, using #006 will work... for a short time... then it will commence leaking again shortly. -Peter
