  • Midrange Machine Recommendations

    Hi All,

I am looking to upgrade from a Gaggia Classic with a budget up to $1,500.

So far the Lelit Combi PID Anita (PL42TEMD) has caught my eye. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with the Lelit Combi ? There seems to be less options between $1-2k with budget machines around $1k and a lot of machines $2.5k up.

I'm also looking for recommendations on a budget dosing scale.

    Thanks in advance

While the combi is an ok machine it’s not really an upgrade from the classic other than the included grinder.
have you considered a second hand machine & grinder combo?
I have a used lelit pl60 dual boiler machine in good condition and a Mazzer mini manual in excellent I am getting ready to sell.
$1250 plus postage if needed from Brisbane

I will get some pics for you ASAP.
It’s about 5 yrs old. Been a back up machine but I don’t need it anymore
Looks similar to the combi but with more functionality

I’ve had a combi with PID for a few months now and am really happy with it. The only other machine I’ve had a play on is a Rancilio Silvia. Very similar coffee making experience. I prefer pulling a shot with the combi but found the Silvia to have a bit more steam power.

Following this - I'm also a noob looking at my first home espresso machine. Based on my research (and to avoid premature upgrade-itis) thinking a HX with E61 group seems a sensible investment. For me, retro italian good looks are essential.
