    Re: Sunbeam EM6910 - shorting

Im not sure we can dismiss them just yet. There seem to be many, many happpy owners out there and only a few problems. Mine is eight months old and has been faultless until now.
I hoppe they do tell me what was wrong when the repair is done.

Hmm...seems that the 6910 is proving just as unreliable as the 6900 was... :-?

Not really surprising..... they are just so complex (all the electronic controls etc) and are built and sold for a very reasonable price...... so quality will suffer somewhat and reliability even more due to the complexity...... the original design flaws have been fixed..... however.....

I feel after they are a couple of years old..... we will see LOTS of problems..... but whilst working they are pretty good

Ive taken it in for repairs and was quoted two weeks. Its a warranty repair and the guy at the shop said it was probably a faulty board.
Oh well, back to plunger coffee for a fortnight!!

    I had the same issue.

In the manual there are some instructions to "reset" the machine. I did this and it did not happen again. I think it occured after I did something to the machine but did not unplug it from the mains power. I picked up the machine and turned it on its side. Maybe it was also a short created by water.

    Good luck,

    Daniel

    Sunbeam EM6910 - shorting

I havent seen this problem mentioned elsewhere, but my EM6910 started making a noise like the pump was running when I filled the reservoir. The noise continued even after I switched the machine off - ie no lights on, but pump noise going. I unplugged it and waited a couple of hours and the problem was resolved.
However, today, the same thing happened again. Refilled and the noise started. I suspect there is an internal leak and the water is making contact with the internal pump switch. Unplugged and after an hour, back to normal. Clearly, this is not acceptable - and probably not safe either.
Of course, these things have to happen on a Sunday, but first thing tomorrow, Ill be giving Sunbeam a call. Luckily, the service centre is not too far away, but Im not looking forward to the week to 15 days without the machine!!
    Ill keep you all posted.
Working...
