  • Upgrade from Breville BES250

    Hi everyone,

First time poster, long time green beans purchaser!

I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post (sorry). I'm looking at upgrading my ~10 year old Breville Cafe Venezia BES250 to something a little better, ie Gaggia Classic price range. Making 2x coffee most days, sometimes more on the weekends.

It's an absolute treasure trove of brands out there, any help or advice as to where to start, what to consider, brand recommendations etc would be helpful. Definitely happy with second hand also.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brendan.

I don't have alot of experience with different machines, but I've been fairly happy with my Breville BES920. If you can get it on sale (and don't mind the styling), it's probably hard to beat sub $1K with dual boilers and very stable temps. Good Guys & Harvey's both have them on sale for Black Friday currently for $899.

That being said, it is an "appliance-grade" machine and probably won't last anywhere near as long as a hand-made Italian beast.

Don't neglect your grinder either, make sure to budget for something decent if you don't have a good one already.

Hi Brendan, +1 for the BES920, I upgraded from a BES860 4yrs ago ago and mine hasn't missed a beat, super easy to use every day and pairs well with the Smart Grinder Pro if you are on a budget or something a lot better like a Sette 270Wi. Cheers, Jase

Thanks for the responses, I'll check it out. Definitely hard to toss up between spending a similar amount on a Gaggia Classic or Rancilio Silvia circa earlier 2000s, or spending a bit more money on a double boiler. Decisions decisions!
        Thanks again Brendan.
