  • Oscar II fault - only steam coming out of group head

    Hi all

I have a 3 month old Nouva Simonelli Oscar II with an OPV fitted. Machine has been great until this morning when water wasn't coming out of the grouphead properly. The issue being when the machine is properly heated, only steam with very little water comes out of the grouphead, and when the machine is cold (I've let it cool down to see if I can flush out air bubbles), only a small amount of water comes out.

Not sure what the issue is but I am descaling the machine now hoping it will fix the issue. In the meantime, I've took a video of the machine and uploaded to youtube in the link below, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    G'day Sky...

The initial flow rate from the Group looks Ok and maybe a bit hot.
Does your machine draw water through an 'in-tank' water softening filter? If so, it might be worth checking that this is not clogged up...
Do you use a water filtering system to condition the water prior to filling the water tank? If not, this is pretty well an essential thing to do. Would recommend contacting Bombora via their "Fridge Filters" website to have your mains water tested (free) and the optimum water filtering setup recommendation to suit.

      Hi Mal

Thank you for your response! Only softened filter water has ever gone into the machine.

I have uploaded another video, please see the link below. So once it starts running and some water comes out (less than usual), it cuts off, and reverts back after a few second, also not with a great deal of water.

        G'day Andy...

Have you been back in touch with the vendor at all?
Will probably take a lot of to-ing and fro-ing to try and troubleshot this from afar since it could be down to a couple of different issues. Would be best returned to the vendor to sort it out for you, if that's possible...

Hey Mal, not yet as it only occurred this morning. That’s my next step. I have however found one issue that may have cause the problem, the solenoid tube had broken off. I have fixed up the broken off bit and will let it heat up again hopefully solves the issue...

Ah, looks like you found the problem.
Do you have any silicone rubber tubing on hand?
The bend into that fitting may be too tight and overstressing the tubing and should probably be entirely replaced.

Nothing to hand unfortunately, temporary fix was to cut the end tip off and plug it back. Though that didn't seem to fix the problem, the volume of water coming out is still rather low, and cuts off after 3 second (perhaps for preinfusion) but then again at around 20 second. See video link. I have emailed the vendor in the meantime.

I was going to say it sounds like it's out of water... But sucking air in through that broken pipe would sound the same
