That looks to me like a fault. I bet youd have trouble deliberately shearing it off like that!

      Re: EM6910 Broken Portafilter Handle

Just received my nice new group handle from Sunbeam. Even got a business card from "Poppy", so I know who to thank!

Brewed my first cup in a week. Sooooo nice! ;D

Noticed while I was cleaning the machine this time that my seal needed replacing, getting quite deep grooves in it. Not bad I suppose for 17 months, but Ill get onto it before it splits.

AM, Id love to get a new handle on my old portafilter. I assume that whats left stuck in the hole is a threaded brass fitting. So if I drill it out I can just screw one of the handles from coffeeparts onto it? :-?

BTW, I noticed from one of your other posts on 6910 collars that you speak of how far the handle needs to be turned to lock it. At the moment, with a full single filter basket fitted (coffee up to 5mm from rim as per Sunbeam instructions) I turn it to about 5:00 to lock. However, when I put an empty double basket in with the plastic blind to do a backflush I have to twist to 4:00 to lock. Is this likely a collar problem? :-/

You have to compare apples with apples.

The double basket might be a different shape to the single one.

How far around to lock in the empty single basket?

Yeah, sorry, re-read that & it sounded dim. :-[

The empty single basket doesnt go as far to lock as the double, but more than when full. Lets say 5:30 to be pedantic. Short of dismantling the unit, are there any other tell-tale signs I should be looking for???

          Cheers

Look at the inside of the collar and see if you can see signs of the track wearing.

Well, there are a few scratches. Its a bit difficult to see really. I took some photos, but they dont really show enough. Should I be seeing brass if the collar is worn? Or should the tracks look uneven?

Do some extra searching and there are plenty of pics of said - WORN collars.  Think there might be a few in the "EM6910 Collar Replacement "pdf that talks about changing said collar as well.

Do the lug mod and that will gain you some time B4 the collar needs replacing.

had a couple of broken handles , one just this week
in both cases was able to remove the brass bolt end with a pair of vice grips

both handles had been broken whilst customers where experiencing leaks due to worn collars

so they just kept trying to pull tighter until something gave
