If cost is a problem and you have a drill press, you can save some money by buying the elements. The brass boilers are easy to drill as they are quite soft.

It'll be an earth leakage fault at the element, a regular multimeter won't be able to test for this, you need an insulation tester or megger.

If you have a V3 or older, you'll need to change the boiler to the new type which uses a different element configuration. Coffee-A-Roma are the best guys to use for parts.

I have had a few heating elements from E61 machines and others trip the breaker but pass the resistance test. Was always resolved by replacing the heating element.

You could try to remove descale and clean the boiler and heating element but 99% it is buggered.

    Faulty Rancilio Silvia

Hi. I have an oldish Rancilio Silvia which suddenly started tripping the power circuit breakers today. I have tested the boiler for a short or down to earth fault and couldn't find any such faults, however if I disconnect the boiler, the breakers no longer trip. I have checked continuity on the boiler and have resistance of about 50 Ohms. Any suggestions greatly appreciated - Thanks
