I have recently purchased a V1/V2 Rancilio Silvia (2005) and I am going through the process of replacing parts and tidying it up.
I tried to replace the group head seal. When I removed the seal, it was full of black gunk that was rock solid. Probably more than a mil or two in depth. To remove it and clean it out properly, I had to disassemble the machine, remove the group head from the boiler and manually scrap out the muck with a pick and some very stiff bristle brushes. I also had to use vinegar, as soaking it in Cafiza for 12 hours was still not enough to remove the muck.
Since putting it back together and replacing the seal with new Rancilio rubber seal, it leaks when pulling shots.
Does anyone have any ideas? Should I try using cardboard seal spacer?
Cheers,
