Because it is a single boiler not HX machine. It is designed to handle up to 9 bar pressure (pump pressure) not the pressure (1-2 bar) inside a much larger HX boiler and as a result is much much thicker walled with bolts at the only seam, holding the two sides together. It also has two thermostats, one to regulate and one to cut off power if overheating occurs. If something fails causing the heater to remain on the pressure will never reach 9 bars hence the over temp. thermostat is needed instead of a pressure release valve.

I’m horrified by this. How can they release a machine with a boiler and no safety valve?

You could see if the 'resettable' Safety T/stat fitted to Rancilio Silvia is a possibility.
Don't know if it could be fitted to your VBM though...

    Ma.

started a topic Vibiemme Piccolo safety valve?

    Vibiemme Piccolo safety valve?

I have opened up my Vibiemme Piccolo when the thermostat stopped working.

it looks as though there is a capillary thermostat for brewing and a cheap normally closed 150DegC thermostat for steam.

The cheap thermostat for steam seems to be the ONLY thing protecting the boiler from exploding when in steam mode.. I cannot see any mechanical safety valve.

With the 150degC thermostat bypassed, the boiler quickly rose to 8 bar pressure before I turned it off at the wall.

Does anyone know if there is safety valve?

    Thanks.
Working...
