Anyone use a Pesado 58.5mm Tamper?

I have a pesado tamper without the depth adjuster. A curiosity for me: When I tamp into the Breville 58mm 2shot basket, I find the tamper goes quite deep but when I see photos of the depth adjuster it usually goes to the edge of the flat/vertical part of the tamper which wouldn't be deep enough?

Does the rancilio Silvia handle fit into the Pesado tamper base? I've seen that you can buy the pesado base on its own. Would a good money saving hack if it did

Just unpacked a pesado tamper and an 18g pesado basket! I'm very happy with it, the products are exceptionally well made. I measured my stock rancillio tamper at around 57mm, the pesado tamper fills the basket much better, highly recommend.

just got a Silvia myself this week also. would be interested to hear espresso55 how you find whatever option you end up going for compared to the stock basket and tamper.

In my experience:
Pesado+IMS=perfect
Pullman+VST=perfect
I didn’t like using a Pesado tamp in VST baskets though, as despite all nominal measurements it was too tight.

the depth adjuster is great as once set, as long as you use the same amount of ground coffee each time, your tamping will be consistent and level

Thanks john. Great photos, love it. How do you find the depth adjuster?

i use the pesado tamper and love it, i got it with the depth adjuster. Prior to it i had a pullman tamper which is also great. Still have both but always went with the pesado as it just felt nicer in my hand, and i love how you can change the colour schemes to match what you have..i use to cycle between gold and bronze
ever since getting the puqpress though both my tampers are sitting in storage.
You really cant go wrong with either, and i hadn't noticed any difference between the 2.
I use VST baskets

Thanks so much for your comment. Much appreciated, I think I will go for the pesado basket and tamp and see how it goes.

I think you'll be ok with the Pesado tamper. I currently use a Rattleware tamper (which retailed at around $60) even though I have a Pullman tamper, admittedly not a BigStep. I occasionally use the Pullman only to return to the Rattleware as it feels more comfortable in my hand and the Pullman is a tighter fit - a bit too tight for my liking.
The 0.05 mm difference between the Pesado and Pullman isn't significant. If a 28.55 mm tamper is too big for your basket, then the 28.5mm isn't going to fit that well either. We're talking about a hair's breadth difference here.I doubt you will notice any difference in the cup between the two.
I also recently bought a Pesado 17g filter basket and it does produce a better cup than my stock Profitec basket and, likely, better than your Rancilio basket. Note that the Pesado requires a finer grind.. I also own a VST 22g basket and, like many, am somewhat underwhelmed by it. Not saying the VST is crap, just not my cup of ..errr...coffee. Which basket is best has been asked on here before.

Anyone use a Pesado 58.5mm Tamper?
Hi All,
I’ve just purchased a Silvia/Rocky Combo, and am really excited to get the best tasting espresso I can from it.
I am in the market for a Tamper and Filter Basket upgrade and am carefully considering the Pesado 58.5mm Tamper and filter baskets. Can anyone shed any light on how they actually perform? And in particular how they compare to say a VST basket/Pullman big step tamper combo - which seems to be very highly regarded as a fantastic setup?
Specifically- I’d love to know:
From what I understand the big step tamper is machined at 58.55mm and the Pesado is machined at 58.5mm - and is half the price, and the pesado(IMS) baskets are also half the price of a vst. We are talking about 0.05mm difference here. I’m really interested to hear peoples thoughts on this before I make a purchase. Also I can’t seem to find any similar forums or reviews for the pesado range, however plenty on vst/Pullman.
Any help to to hear people experience with pesado would be greatly appreciated, thanks heaps in advance,
cheers!
