  • Rancilio Lucy (silvia + grinder) - boiler issues

can anyone help please!! - My Lucy has just returned (2 weeks ago) from the repairshop after having the boiler replaced (actually the element but as its a 1 piece unit you replace both) This morning she has begun tripping the houses circuit breaker when I go to turn the machine on. I think she has blown another boiler - anyway the last time I sent her away for repair it took over TWO MONTHS and she has now blown up again (machine thermostat not tripped) so Im naturally a little reluctant to take her back to the same dealer. My questions are:
Is it possible that the new boiler would be a dud or is there some other issue apart from the element boiler that would cause this problem? - until 08 she has worked for many years without issue
Does anyone know of a reputable repairer in QLD who can get to the bottom of these problems??
I am reluctant to replace her as she makes good coffee and is also my grinder and has just got new teeth

    69strat;

there are several coffee machines technicians in Brisbane or in QLD. Where about you are?

    Regards

    Renzo.

Ps (Silvia boiler/ element is one unit). It could be that Coffee Thermostat have fail.

        Hi 69strat

Find out about other potential repair places but one should contact the place that did your repair as it will be covered under warranty. They would also want to know if there was something wrong either with the part or their repair. Place some *polite* but firm pressure on them to check out your machine quickly.

Also do make sure that your are not running the boiler dry on your Silvia. Remember the boiler does not fill automatically after using just the brew switch. You have to use the hot water switch and run water to fill the boiler.

          I agree with Mike

69strat I know the shop you are talking about
Jack the technician there is very knowledgeable

I have said on previous posts that on occasions any machine will fail at its weakest point and if you fix one thing it will find the next weakest point

It may not be the boiler but a tripping overloaded switch that is designed to protect the rest of the machine
Call them and have it sorted out

Ive owned the machine for 4 1/2 years making about 20 cups of coffee per day and never had any issues - always been careful to vent the boiler etc. I wondered if the old thermostat might be faulty because it doesnt seem to set off at all - anyway Im reassured to hear that Jack is well regarded - Ill try again and see what we can do
            Thanks everyone
