  • BES920 steam pump running continuously

Any ideas on what could be causing the steam pump to keep pumping non stop? It stalls when the boiler fills but is still on and trying and when the steam tap is opened the pump speeds up and water flows out of the steam tip. The triac appears ok. Cheers

Relay welded closed. Level probes dirty. The probes are probably the easiest to check. Make sure the machine is switched off and fully unplugged from the wall. You'll want some food grade silicone grease and replacement O rings as you're likely to damage the existing O rings in removing the probes.

Thanks L3N. Level probes look clean. Tried earthing the level probe wires to double check and no difference. Didn’t realise the pump is controlled via relay, through the Triac on the circuit board controls the pump, just like the triacs under the top lid control the heating elements? Cheers

I don't know if it's a relay or triac for sure. Whatever it is it can fail closed.

Yeah it looks like it’s a triac driving the pump and it tests fine, not shorted. Not much info on this on the interwebs unfortunately. Found something suggesting if the machine was turned on and the boiler started to prime and machine was turned off during the prime/refill it can confuse the program. Also the pump started a few seconds after turning machine on. Cheers

            Try a factory reset?

Maybe it's just an error reset but might help

Thanks. Tried that and it didn’t work, bugger. Like you say seems to be an error code reset. Will keep investigating.

                  cheers
