I've had my Rancilio Silvia (unmodified) since 2014. I clean my machine but not as as regularly as I should.
12 months ago I replaced the Gasket and shower screen.
Its been great all this time but then about a week ago I noticed the two issues below at the same time:
1. When I try to make coffee using the brew switch only a very small trickle comes out.
A little over a few drops.
2. When I flick the switch to steam the milk (even before i turn the knob) i can hear a loud knocking sound
and i can see what appears to be very hot water coming out the return tube into the water tank.
If i leave the steam switch on for any length of time the whole coffee machine seems to get very hot.
What have I tried:
I backwashed the machine.
I de-scaled the machine.
I have made sure the port-filter is clean.
I took apart and cleaned the 3-way valve - but it didn't appear to be very dirty.
I have pushed on the Brew Thermostat - but it didn't make any difference. (It didn't appear to be pushed out anyway).
If i turn on the machine and immediately switch on the water switch and turn the knob - water jets out of the wand - so I believe my pump is ok.
Any ideas? I guess my next step will be to take it to the shop.
