  • Sunbeam EM6910 lowest price.

After about 13 years of service, my Krups 3000 has a corroded metal plate near the selector knob and I can not locate a spare part anywhere. This has lead me to a search for a replacement espresso machine and by all accounts the Sunbeam EM9610 should do the trick. The current redemption offer of the burr grinder is enough to push me over the edge and go ahead and buy one.

Of course, like most people, I do not want to pay the full recommended retail price. I would like to find out the best prices that people have paid and where. Given that many retailers will match prices, being armed with this information will hopefully allow me to save some money that can be converted to beans.

The practice of regularly reporting the lowest prices has worked very well in the digital TV forums. Very often people would pay $800 - $850 on a product with a RRP of $999. Many people have gone as far as posting a scanned version of their receipts so that other people could take printouts as evidence of competitive prices when purchasing.  8-) The retailers with the lowest prices did not object to being identified either - it drove more business to their stores.

So, I would like to encourage all purchasers of Sunbeam EM6910 to post information on how much they paid and where they purchased. Ill do the same when I buy mine.

The $485 price would be what I am after, but knowing where to get that price would help.

Yes, but that has already been asked in that thread.
I dont know how useful it is asking again in a different place.

          Hi all

As consumers we all want the lowest price and when it comes to TVs, washing machines and even PCs, which are commodity goods, this practice is excellent. Its a good example of cooperative consumer power working well.

For machines in the $1000+ range where you want honest advice from a retailer and a lot of their time to make an informed decision (and in my case I got 2.5 hours of help in choosing from a sponsor here) this practice can be counter productive in the long term.

If the place is Hardly Normal or Bings you will get little help but then they have to serve many dozen customers all in the shop at once. You cant really expect anything more. But for some site sponsor places there will be perhaps you and one or a few customers - they can spend time with you to help you in your decision. But if played off against each other by customers too much (Im not taking just shopping around here, thats OK) then things like a 5% discount to CS members cuts into the margins too much, spending time with a slow customer will disappear and well be left with coffee machine supppliers like the big chains.

I dont think an EM6910 is quite in the category where it would be inappropriate to post a receipt of how much one paid but doing this for other machines here in the long term may not be in our best interests as consumers wanting real SERVICE.

          Mike

            Re: Sunbeam EM6910 lowest price.

            Mike,

Totally agree with your point of view there. I dont think there is a definite price point at which you can make the call. In my view, any mass produced goods sold through retail chains are a fair game for bargain hunting. On the other hand, when it comes to high-end products with real sales support, the whole pre and post sales experience is more important than the final price difference. I have purchased a sub-woofer at the beginning of the year and the experience I had with the sales staff at the hi-fi shop ensured that next time I am in the market for an AVR or a TV, Ill be visiting the store again. I think most emotionally driven discretionary purchases fall into the non-bargain-hunting category. Same way I wont argue over the price of a good coffee bean or a well crafted beer.

However, given that the EM6910 is sold through retail chains such as Harvey Norman, Bing Lee and David Jones, who all have published price competitive policies, I see it as fair game for shopping around for the best price. At the end of the day, none of these retailers will sell a single unit if they are not making an adequate level of profit mandated by the management.

I purchase one from Myer for $594.15

Actually I have now puchsed two. The first one lasted 5 months and the second one 3 months. Now I do not have one as a wait for Sunbeam to decide what they will do. Will they repair/replace/refund the unit?

This machine is a real dissappointment.

It may be designed in Australia and have some great features.....but it is a pice of rubbish!!!!!!!!

What kind of failures are you seeing?

If I am reading the CS forums correctly, it would appear that many people are experiencing issues with the seal between the PF and the head - possibly caused by the metal on the head wearing down?
