Im looking to buy one of these machines. i was wondering if anyone here has them or maybe even a 2nd hand one for sale ? Please post your responses on here ill check them dayly.
My brother has just bought one.
I have not actually seen it in action yet, but so far he seems happy with it.
for the price, I think you could do much better though.
He wanted the push-button convenience.
I didnt agree, but its his money. The best I could do was supply him with fresh beans.
He liked the idea of the milk jug that could be put back in the fridge when finished with.
He has stated that the cuppuccino is too frothy for his liking, but it is an Italian machine, so it is probably set to their standards.
There are other accessories available. IE: A latte jug which I believe has a different frothing setting (probably different holes or air intake). This is better he tells me (had to buy it as an extra), but not quite hot enough for his liking (same with the cappas). This might be his personal taste, or it might be a little low on temp.
The higher models seem to have a switch for cappuccinno, latte and flat white built in, but they are significantly more expensive.
Hes already been through more than 100 cups and has done his first de-scale (I assume with special Delonghi products), so you should look at the costs of that as well.
As for buying a 2nd hand one of these - I would really avoid that. Theres a lot that can go wrong with them and at lease one review I have read goes into detail about servicing woes.
Any reason you are stuck on this model?
Im probably going to see it in action tonight, so Ill report back.
The main reason im interested in this machine, is because my wifes work has just got one and I really liked the way it did things. Like your brother the convienance of putting the jug back into the fridge. the fresh grinding done each time you have a coffee. I know you can adjust the temp on that machine. Ive had a play with one.
If you have any other models youd suggest or own, i love to know. Something similar ?
Cheers
Before you purchase one of these (or any other super automatic)..... wait a few months and see how your wifes work machine is going (if it still is!)...... and how much maintenance (by people in the section) and by the supplier has been done in that time....
All these machines - except the Jura (and they are expen$$$$$ive) - are notoriously unreliable and spend more time being fixed than actually being used....
They are incredibly complex devices..... built for a price (a pretty low price at that).... and as a result reliability suffers.....
And there is ABSOLUTELY no way Id buy one second hand - ever!!! And I wouldnt buy a new or used one on EvilBay either...... If you must have one - get it from a genuine retailer - new - and take out an extended warranty. You will almost certainly need it!
Your post, as it currently stands, does not comply with the Site Sales and Posting Policy mate; which can be perused here....
Would appreciate it if you could nominate a realistic price range youd be willing to pay for one of these and that this facility is for the Sale and Purchase of Used Hardware ONLY.... or your post will be removed.
Well, I will continue my answers based on the assumption that you should buy a NEW one if you are going to buy this model.
Saw the machine in action last night.
Had a cappuccino made with my beans (Peru Grace Estate) and found it quite drinkable.
Was it great? No.
Was it better than many cafes? Yes.
The only killer for me was that my brother dusted it with Cadburys drinking chocolate (which I used to use myself) and I found it rather a let down since I dust with African Red or Koko Deluxe now. I was surprised that it effected the overall experience so much for me!
The beans in the hopper do get a little hot which is also a minus for me, but not a killer.
I didnt play with the settings at all. Im told that it has a number of strength settings for the shot. Adjusting these appears to adjust either the grind or the amount of coffee used for the shot.
The pucks come out good and firm, but quite small. Probably around 40mm x 20mm the ones I looked at. I didnt measure them, so theyre possibly larger than that.
I found the temperature was fine for me. Perhaps some machines lose some heating ability as they get older or perhaps people are so used to getting their coffee made too hot, that when it comes out OK, they think its cold.
All in all, it seems like a good unit when it is working.
My brother is keen to keep up the cleaning regime, so he has now done 2 sets of cleaning as it is recommended every 100 cups and he is blasting through them at present.
As I stated earlier, it would not be my choice for the money, but it does appear to deliver a decent cup using fresh beans.
If you are set on getting it, take the advice of JavaB and purchase the extended warranty option, as it will almost certainly need servicing within a couple of years. Nature of the beast it seems.
