There are BDBs last close to 10 years. I'm happy if mine can last 6-7 years with some self-maintenance, then keep it as spare parts for the next one.

Perhaps you could look at a factory second from a Breville outlet shop. I got a BDB for one of my daughters a few months ago. It was about $800, came with a warranty (reduced), looked like new and has worked perfectly from day one.
They are very user friendly and make really good coffee. The only downside I see is their longevity, compared to a much more solidly built european machine.

    Agreed.

Also, I've just posted a Wanted post looking for something under 1k for my daughter. A quality used BDB is easy to pick up for sub 1k but you may want to keep an eye on my post in case there is a response that provides food for thought. I suspect I won't see anything better than a BDB but its worth asking.

True. If they ever go back to $800 I would probably jump on it.

What about second hand? I am not adverse to it.

Budget is not really determined. Would say about 1000 to 1500. Am ok with second hand.

however, only looking to buy in august. This is more a research question not a wtb. Probably will post a wtb in due course.

Alternatives to the breville dual boiler

Well, I have been bitten with the upgrade bug.

currently I have a breville barista touch, paired with a niche.
it makes good coffee but lately I have wondering if I can make it even better. I predominantly drink expresso and the wife flat white.

likes of the current set up
My wife really like the auto steamer as she can use it for chocolate milk for the kiddies

    dislikes

I am not enamoured with the odd group size. Makes it hard to get decent baskets, screens etc.

most recommendations in my price range point to the dual boiler but I am wondering if there is a better alternative elsewhere.

another thought is whether changing the machine will make any difference to what’s in the cup. No point of upgrading if I am getting the same coffee in the end.

will be looking to buy once I get my tax return in July/ august. Gives me a lot of time to ponder

    thoughts?
