  • Silvia Cosmetic Issues

    Hey all,

Had my silvia for about 16 months now, been an awesome investment and ive been happy with it. The only thing is that ive started to notice that there chrome paint around the group head on the machine is starting to flake and come off. What i want to know is that normal for this machine? How can i stop it?

I dont want to mess with it too much so i dont make it look worse then what it is!

As show in the pic below, ive circled the area i am talking about. Its the chrome looking section of the head on the machine, the bit around the shower screen. Not the Group Handle

Ill organise a photo of my machine if need be?

    Any help would be wonderful.

    Cheers
    Armers

      Re: Silvia Cosmetic Issues

Its only chrome plated plastic and Im expecting the same thing to eventually happen on my Silvia.

If and when it does, depending on if it bugs me or not, Ill consider replacing it with a new one

Ahhh so you would replace that whole part... fair enough.

Its just a chrome plated plastic shroud, apparently the same as Rancilio fit to their latest commercial machines (so Ive read) so surely someone would either have, or could order them as a replacement part.

                Re: Silvia Cosmetic Issues

I noticed this on my Silvia last week when I was backflushing and cleaning the group seal and screen, its not visible from the front yet but I can feel it peeling away underneath where the pf locks in.

That looks like the old model.

The new model Silvia has a completely different group head shroud.

Plastic?? Whats this plastic business? Pretty sure mine isnt plastic -- tap tap tap -- sounds like metal ...

But mines an "old" machine (5 years is old, right?)

So maybe the question should be, if Coffeeparts are selling old-style chromed *metal* shrouds, will they fit on the "new" (plastic) machines?

Probably an earlier model Simone and in this case, older is better.... :

Does rather look that way! Theres not a mark on my "old" metal shroud, and this on a second-hand machine of unknown provenance :

Im feeling quite (totally undeservedly ;D) smug...

The original PF, on the other hand, is an entirely different story -- bits of chrome missing all round :-/

Another area where the old is better than the new is in a video I saw on the Pullman website that shows how a magnet sticks to the "cheaper" grade stainless on the 6910 but not to the old model Silvia. http://www.coffeetamper.com.au/**/reviews/sunbeam-silvia/

My new model Silvia appears to use the "cheaper" grade stainless coz magnets stick to it :
