  • BES 900 - Solenoid or Pump - or both?

    Hi all

Very little/no water coming out of hot water or group head when I turn it on or try to pull a shot. Makes a kind of buzzing (but not rattly) noise when I press the shot button or turn the hot water dial and no nice machine hum like it should. Also intermittent water bubbling like it's trying to prime itself all the time, not just when I press the button. Also the buzzing noise happens every so often even when I haven't pressed a shot button or turned the hot water dial. Also seems to heat to beyond 93 degrees, to which it is set.

Haven't taken the cover off yet and it's probably never been descaled. Any ideas?

You almost certainly have multiple issues going on. The overheating is likely caused by leaking O ring(s) on the steam boiler letting steam get to the triac board attached to the cup warmer, which means it doesn't turn the heating element(s) off when it should. Whether drying it out will fix it or its too far gone can only be determined by trying to dry it out for a couple of days after fixing the leaking O rings.

The other issues are hard to diagnose based on description alone. What you call buzzing and bubbling, I might describe the other way around. A video with sound would help. My guess is that the pump is on the way out, whether other things are as well is what needs confirmation.

What sort of water has the machine been fed?
How frequently and regularly were the water filters changed?
