  • La Pavoni coffee machine

Guys, I have been checking out a La Pavoni lever machine (it's pre 2000, so 22+ years old now).
It's 2nd hand and the owner wants $NZD600.
He tells me that he can't use it now as it trips the RCD's in his new house (but apparently worked fine in his previous house with old fashioned fuses).
I'm thinking that maybe 'something' has gone awry with the machine. Maybe during the house move.
Surely it would have no more power draw than an electric jug, etc?
What faults do these La Pavoni get that would cause excessive power draw?
My home is new too, and has all RCD protection so if La Pavoni don't like RCD's then no use to me either.
I'm thinking I should buy new, as this one is about 1/2 price of a new one anyway. But...it does look nice, and I could be tempted.
    Thanks for any thoughts, comments.

Could be a faulty heating element. Also, will likely need a new set of gaskets, seals etc, so more work and additional costs in store.

When my base seal or gasket was worn out it would do that. Unfortunately I can't tell you how to fix it because I got it serviced for that problem at a lever specialist store in Sydney. I do my own maintenance on the grouphead and steam assembly though and that is fairly inexpensive.

99% your element, it might still heat but it is definately on the way out.

$600 plus the cost of a new element and service and seals as robusto has suggested.

A new one is going to be a better buy

        Cheers

Thanks guys. I did suspect that a new one would be the way to go...and I'm actually quite happy with that.
          Now...where would I find one....hmmm?

We can ship to NZ if you would like to send a DM with some address details we can get you a quote.

Pricing would be less Australian GST off pricing here

Thanks Antony, I will have a good look through.
I would like a La Pavoni, but Missus likes the idea of a Sylvia Rancilio V6.
Mind you, she actually likes a Moccona Instant anyway (absolutely no class at all).
