Hi. I'm hoping you might be able to give me some advice on a coffee machine for our home. We love coffee, but recently we feel the cafes near us have become a bit inconsistent. Our overall aim is to save a bit of money in the long-term while learning how to make coffee like the best cafes, but without the odd dud.
We drink flat whites mostly, generally one a day, sometimes two. I used to love black coffee when there was a good place near work, so would also like to experiment with straight espressos, macchiatos, etc.
We're also looking for something that lasts a while. We're hoping to make better and better coffee as our proficiency with the machine improves (so I've dismissed automatic machines in my mind), but I can't see us becoming so involved that we want to upgrade anytime soon.
I've put this question in the $500-$1500 category but would be happy to spend a little bit more if it's obviously worth it.
My research so far has led me in lots of directions (it's become a bit confusing, really), but it sounds like getting a good, separate grinder is essential and that a European-built machine is very likely to last longer than a Breville (happy to be disabused of this notion). I'd love some specific recommendations, but even some general advice to help me focus my research would be a huge help.
Thanks!
