Just to quantify it ...There is at least 6 variables in the handle design that has a minor or major impact whether another branded handle will successfully hold pressure when installed into the grouphead.

Dont hold me to it but you'll find that Wega / Expobar handles which are commonly available are similar and will likely fit the Bezzera.

And just as a point of caution if you have a commercial machine without handles it likely that the handles were 'well used' meaning things like the chrome finish has worn off the inside of the 'bowl' exposing the brass metal in them. Espresso liquid is acidic.

Which would cause some to then cautiously access what level of maintenance the machine currently requires to get it back to top performance. Bezzera are a robust build with parts usually / commonly available.

Also I think the Nuova Simonelli machines (I recall seeing this on the Oscars I worked on at least) has this odd offset but not sure if they fit Bezzera.

Also if the Op in in Brisbane would be worth hitting Coffee Machine Specialists up for second hand handles (they are the Bezzera ) as I have bought some there before.

Gaggia commercial (and Classics I believe) also have the lugs at 45 degrees.

Most Bezzera (non E-61) machines have the lugs located at 45 degrees to the PF handle...
Not sure which other manufacturers do this.

I would say generally that portafilters are not interchangeable. Most E61 portafilters will be, but not all, and they are the exception to the rule. The lugs are usually laid out in a similar places but their width and thickness varies more than enough to cause problems.

    G’day nsharpley,

I would say that generally, commercial machines tend to use a standard 58mm portafilter design with 2 lugs at a right angle to the handle (originating from the e61 group head design). Machines like La Marzocco & e61 group machines will all therefore be able to use the same portafilters interchangeably.

I believe gaggia is an odd one to use 57mm (But not 100% sure.)? Brevilles are 54mm,
Lever machines often have smaller groups too, though I assume yours isn’t a lever group.

Upload a picture here of the group and machine and l’m sure a CSer will know.

Compatible Group Handles - Bezzera Machine

    Hi All,

I just aquired a commercial grade Bezzera machine. Two group.

    No handles.

My question is more a general one on group handle compatibility.

I was under the naive assumption that group handles were a semi-universal component and would be transferrable from one machine to the next.

On first check, my Gaggia Classic group handle does not fit the Bezzera 2 Group.

So that throws my assumption out.

I'm fine with buying two Bezzera handles but I'm curious to know if other commercial grade machines would be compatible?

Is it the case that all commericial level handles will fit on different branded machines or are the group handles all brand specific and will only fit the one type of machine?

    Cheers

    Nick
