Also set up alerts on Gumtree and FB MarketPlace rather than look. Pick carefully as there is a lot of crap out there - look for home use only (look at pics question user) and IMO avoid ex-cafe / battered machines. I picked up my Bezerra BZ02S from GT for a lot less than your budget and it's done me very well. Grinder too, but finding that more of a minefield.

If you are in SEQ then pm as I know of a HX machine going cheap.

That gets my vote too. No contest at that price point. And they are always up for sale on GT in particular. Just make sure to look inside if that's possible.

Would say that the breville dual boiler can be had for $900 of you waited for the right sale

The OP says that his mate has a semi-decent grinder....though we don't know exactly what that is.

Don't forget that he'll need a grinder too!! I reckon a used Silvia or Gaggia Classic with a used Rancilio Rocky grinder? They come up quite often, and many are barely used (just avoid older ones). I even saw "display model" Gaggia Classic Pro's for $399 recently, so keep an eye out!

    For example:

Leaves you with enough for a used grinder within budget.....

What machine to buy for sub $900

Hi everyone, I've had a Rancilio Silvia for about 8-10 years or so and it's amazing for what I need, I love it.

I have a mate who has a $200 Breville from Kmart and he wants to upgrade to something better but sub $900 if possible. He has a semi decent grinder already.

I've been out of the looking at / buying a machine game for a long time because my Silvia works perfectly for me - so I have no idea what to recommend to him or whats available at the moment. When I bought the Silvia it was considered the best entry level home machine for around $1000. They currently retail at around $1100 - he would possibly increase his budget if I convinced him it was definitely the best way to go.

Can anyone send me some suggestions of machines around the $800-900 mark OR if I should just convince him to get the Silvia, and some beanbay suppliers who I should send him the link to support.

    Thanks!

    Anthony
