  • Upgrade/Moderise Suggestions Sub $1500

    Howdy All,

Forever lurker, new poster. I have just been given the nod from the ol' minister of finance to modernise our daily driver.
Currently have a pre-millennium IMAT Nepoletana (think Lelit Anita) which is really starting to show her age and as such looking to modernise.
I have have narrowed my search down and have somewhat settled on ECM Casa V or the Quickmill Pippa. I am chasing any users thoughts, feeling, emotions or experience with either machine to help sway the decision. Though open to other recommendations.

    Usage
Double long black and double flat white in the morning
Repeated on weekends with a second round early arvo.
    Minimal mass entertaining.

    Needs
Small kitchen so bench space (width and depth) is at a premium.
Sigle boiler preferred (non-e61) for shorter warmup (suits my usages pattern). Don't mind waiting for steam.
    Grinder accounted for, Eureka Specialita.

    My thoughts/questions:
Narrowed to these two because i like the aesthetics (vain, in know).
Leaning ECM mainly due to the narrowest form factor.
Is the 50ml boiler size (ECM 400ml vs Pippa 450ml) going to be a noticeable difference (i.e. steaming/temp stability)? I'm sure both will feel fine when compared to current 250ml in the IMAT.
Self maintenance and ongoing accessibility of parts? Has anyone had a good look round the internals?
    Machine longevity?

A push one way or the other, or a whole other tangent would be appreciated

I'm currently helping a mate find a machine to fit a similar brief and I would recommend looking into the Bezzera BZ10 man. I'm still researching small footprint grinders too so if anyone out there reading this could make some suggestions there that would be horse! Good luck man

Do i dare to dream? Thanks for the suggestion and will look into the BZ10 some and keep an eye on the second hand market up until i buy. Even if worth the cash, i feel new is a bridge too far with the minister of finance

JustMediocre definitely cast a wide net here to see what site sponsors recommend https://coffeesnobs.com.au/SponsorQuotes

That said, I've had two ECMs and the quality and steaming was superb. Izzo also very good on both counts although for quality the ECM is hard to beat.

Thanks Tom. Definitely planning to hit up site sponsors and have a look at some machines in the flesh. Thanks also for the vote of confidence toward the ECM on the whole. ECM seems to be a known commodity in this area where as i don't seem to find much info at all about the quickmills, though I'm sure they are a fine machine too.

I would add the Lelit single boilers to your list.

Thanks Rooster. I did have the Victoria on the list (PL92?), but that stretches the budget a little. I'm sure the other single boiler Lelits meet my needs, but was wanting to err away from them due to the 57mm group/filter. Just makes it hard to get quality accessories (baskets, etc.).

Thanks all for your reply's date.
No quickmill owners/fans in general out there? Perhaps that is telling?

Did you end up going for the bz10? If so I'd be curious to hear your experience.

Unfortunately not, sorry. That budget was a stretch too far. Ended up pulling the trigger on a Casa V.
      Working...
