  • Machine For Milk Drinks

Hi. I posted here a few years back looking for advice. Did not upgrade to any machine from my Sunbeam yet but now I'm ready.
I am not going to mess around too much, just listing my points. I turn on the machine, make one latte, then turn off. That's it. Sometimes I will leave on and have two lattes back to back but not often.

-must heat up quick, so no Rancilio
-is e61 group head worth it for milk drinks? Do they take long to heat up? Worth it for milk drinks?
-do I really need a PID? This is the BIGGEST question for me.

I like the look and design of the ECM Casa V, I would own it already but just need advice on PID, if it's worth it or not. If it's not that important for my siuation then it will make the decision a lot easier.

I am not into shots and I don't think I ever will be. I would just like a 58mm size basket etc. with a nice solid machine to make a latte.

    Thanks guys.

Very few e61 machines will have a heat up time of few minutes like the sunbeam.
This is easily overcome with a wifi timer plug (or the old school set timers) - but you will be most limited to the consumer machines for that.

As for a PID - it's a nice to have, particularly if you like tinkering. But it is not needed in your situation. PIDwill help you extract those last few % points of flavour. Milk will mute most of that anyway.

OK thankyou. Warm up time can be 10-15 min, just not half hour or more.

Two more thing i forgot to list -
pre infusion - worthwhile for milk drinks in my situation?
Water filter - this is new to me, will tap water ruin my machine??

I am still leaning towards ECM Casa V, may pull the trigger this week. Just need a small amount of info, and do some measurements.

Don't know the budget but a Profitec Pro 300 is a much better unit with DB (pull shots and steam milk at the same time) and PID.
Also, as others have said you will not get an E61 group that's really ready to extract in under 30 mins.

Well yes I could afford that, i'm sure it's great, but is this 'too much' of a machine for my needs, one drink a day? More to look after, more to clean, more parts to go wrong, bigger footprint etc... Thoughts?

There's also the new kid on the block, The Profitec GO.

OK I am back to where I was years ago. This is difficult, and it's just putting me off to be honest. I am going to look into the GO, but it'd extra money or the PID feature. What a headache!😟
