  • Sunbeam EM700 intermittent fault

    Hi all

Long time occasional lurker, but first time poster, so please be gentle :0)

Some background on me. I did a 'professional barista course' for working in a cafe about 20 yrs ago at Belaroma (on Sydney's northern beaches), and have been using what I learned to create beautiful endless coffee at home ever since! It's also got me endless brownie points from Mrs K, so it's been well worth every cent.

Anyway - on to the point of the post. I've had an EM700 for about a year now. It's had an intermittent fault whereby when it happens the pressure gauge moves not a jot.

Now I know what you're thinking, but normally the pressure is in the centre of the orange on the dial (meaning an optimum extraction), and it delivers a great pour / crema.

And, whenever the fault happens, the auto turn off doesn't work either, and the machine keeps pouring until it's manually turned off.

I'm also not doing anything different, same beans, same grind, same amount in group head, same tamping.

I can take it back to the store, but i thought i'd see has anyone come across this as a machine error before?

    Cheers
    K

My EM7000 starting doing that this year (8 year old machine) - along with occasionally refusing to come out of standby mode. I sourced another machine...

Also keen to know what the problem was too Kevvie. I know it's a big bit late to reply but I was just looking at the circuit diagram for the 7000 and noticed that the gauges are electronic stepper motors rather than the mechanical type as in the 6910 and I would guess the problem was the flow sensor or, less likely, the control board.
