To close the loop on this one….it was the threads on the steam valve. I had a crack removing it my self but it requires the boiler to be removed. I felt I could end up doing more damage than money I’d save with a diy job.
took it to cafe services in Adelaide and they sorted it out for me….great service

Lelit Combi steam wand valve issue

Thanks for the advice Davo. Sounds like it could be the issue. It certainly feels like the threads are buggered and potential only grabbing at the very end. My machine is 3-4 years old.

It is one of my biggest disappointments with this machine! There is no other way to say it other than the steam valve is under/poorly engineered. What's happened is you have stripped the BRASS thread in the valve - either on the spindle or the housing - likely both. Unfortunately, it means the valve assembly needs replacing. Not too expensive to do if you are the DIY type, which it sounds like you are - about $90 for the valve and tap - but a pain. My first one went after about 2.5 years (some teenage gorillas using the machine may be partly to blame) and after another 2 I can feel it going again :-(

Lelit Combi steam wand valve issue
Hello Brains Trust,
I’ve recently been having issues with my steam wand valve on my Lelit Combi. It has been a bit stiff recently and now when I go to open it up, one I do about a quarter of a turn, the knob will “pop” forwards and not open any further. To close the valve, I need to push the knob back in then turn.
Any thoughts of what the issue is before I open her up and start tinkering?
Thanks.
