  • upgrading my setup… bambino mini & eureka mignon? any other suggestions?

    alright…

after using my (rubbish) sunbeam mini for a few years, i’m really hoping to spend some money on a decent coffee machine!

i’m looking at a budget of $1000-$1200 including a grinder and accessories if necessary.

i mostly drink oat lattes & iced long blacks.
i’ve read that the best combo for my situation is most likely the breville bambino mini plus + the eureka mignon (manual? the cheapest one) grinder.
i’m from australia and for me that comes to $1,200 ish? which is alright considering the great reviews on these appliances.

my other option is to get a second hand rancillio silvia v6 (seemingly a better machine than the bambino) however i’m worried about purchasing one second hand and it being poor condition.
i have also heard great things about the eureka mignon specialita, however this is another $200 on top of the eureka mignon manual cost.

i have also seen some info on the gaggia classic, breville barista express and some other grinder options… if these are worth consideration,

i was hoping to find out what your opinions are on the best budget setup for someone in my position.

would a breville bambino mini & the cheapest eureka mignon do the job? or is there a better alternative/way to spend my money,

(ps: any accessory recs would be appreciated too)

thanks! (ps: i’m pretty anxious about spending money, but i also love my coffee! i’m drinking 2-3 a day and the investment seems worth it)

Had a look through our 4-Sale section yet?

Some great buys to be had and for the most part, very well looked after by fastidious CSers...

    Mal.

Looks like Kooka is selling a Eureka Mignon Silenzio for reasonable price in the hardware for sale section OP.
      You're welcome Kooka

All the options you mention are good. They do offer slightly different value propositions though so that is something that you want to think about. The Bambino/Eureka combo gives you a really good grinder straight from the start and a very user friendly machine that would be good to learn on. In saying that if you've already got the basics down from using your Sunbeam for a couple of years then the Gaggia Classic could be the better option. It's not as friendly to use as either of the Breville options, but arguably has the ability to give you better results once you've got a handle on how to use it. To get the best out of the Gaggia you'd also need a decent grinder like the Eureka.

I can't speak for the value in going for a more expensive Eureka grinder as I've never owned one. From what I have heard they make good grinders that offer good value right from their entry level Mignon. The main difference as you move up to the likes of the Specialita is user experience as they can be both quieter and have more features.

The Eureka is a no brainer, the Bambino, Silvia and Gaggia are all solid options. I had a Gaggia and it was great (and they can be had pretty cheaply on the used market).
