    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good quality bottomless PF for my silvia. Preferably nice and weighty like the factory one.

    Thanks alot

    Gday Shimmy,

Try our site sponsors "Coffee Parts", link to their site over on the L/H side of the page....

        Re: Bottomless PF for Silvia

        Hi Ed,

I bought a coffeeparts bottomless for my Silvia -- doesnt have a Rancilio stamp or anything on it, in fact no makers mark of any kind, so no idea who actually made it.

The weight question is easy: 406g vs 570g for the original. In fact I was surprised it weighed that much; it feels a lot lighter in the hand. It is minus quite a bit of metal of course!

Happy? Well it leaks around the top sometimes, unless Im really brutal locking it in; Id just change the group seal, but the original doesnt leak like that, so not sure whether Id just be wasting my time. The lugs are a slightly different shape, and smaller, which may have something to do with it.

The chrome finish is a lower quality than the original, but no real faults, and (most important!) no nasty sharp edges (like others have complained of) -- the "machined" edge where the bottom is missing is smooth.

And it does the job; i.e., I get to watch coffee oozing through the basket 8-) (Ive become weirdly addicted to this, for some reason; coffee coming out of 2 little spouts just doesnt cut it anymore, somehow : )

          Re: Bottomless PF for Silvia

          Thanks Simone ....

Yea I really would like to start using the bottomless.....Im am pretty fussy when it come to quality...

I might have a look out for an original Rancilio PF then get it machined by a metal worker?

anyone know where I could get a original PF for Silvia? I would use the one I have but Id like to keep one original as well.

          Thanks alot,
          Ed

            HI Ed,

I believe Grinders are the Australian Rancilio distributors; but as to whether they sell accessories or parts I have no idea. Coffeeparts sell a PF for the silvia for $75, but its not clear from the website whether its "original" or "aftermarket". I considered getting one of these and butchering it, but chickened out.

btw, one more advantage of the bottomless that hasnt yet been mentioned (besides the technique-diagnosis application and the "I like to waatch" syndrome :) is that theyre nothing to clean!
