Unfortunately, I got home and shes still not doing her thing with the cutoff, so I might have to drop her off tomorrow - Ill see how strong Im feeling and whether I can do without her companionship right now...off to SB Coffee School on Saturday, so I might hang onto her until next week, so I can practise any new techniques I learn on Saturday.

Great to catch up with the saga of your equipment... A nice read and your understanding of thread hijacking etc is outstanding...

Let us know how it all goes...

Re: EM6910 Single Pour & Double Pour Cutoff Proble

Ah, well, Ive returned home and Caffetina (as I call my travelling buddy, or Tina for short) is still happy with me for  the moment.  I took her on a nice excusion and showed her cattle, horses and some half dried up dams (she wasnt impressed with the dams - the water wasnt any where near filtered enough for her, poor little precious!!!)

Unfortunately I didnt get a chance to use her in the end because I remembered, once Id arrived, that my Sister in Law was on bore water and there was no way I was going to do that to Tina!!!

I was unfaithful to her while I was in The Bri, though, but only out of desparation.   :-[ We went into town yesterday and I dropped into the bakery on the main street because I knew they made coffees.  While the hubby was ordering our matchsticks and chocolate eclairs, I got in line to order a latte (behind about 3 other people) and decided to take the opportunity to watch how the two older women made the coffees.  After get one back from the front of the cue, I stepped straight out of line in disgust!  The steam wands were not cleaned between use and, even if I ignored that, it was the slopping the milk into the cups and then ladling on the 2/3 of a cup of ultra fluffy foam (and I mean, the sort of stuff that you make in your sink when youre doing your dishes sort of fluffy) on top that really did it for me!  >

With that, I told hubby that I was doing a runner across the road to The Cafe across the road (literally their name) because Id seen their outdoor umbrellas with the name of  coffee supplier - one Id never heard before - and figured that if some coffee supplier was prepared to put their name on umbrellas outside the joint, they might have at least spent the time teaching the people a thing or two when they were setting up the gear for them.  Because we couldnt hang around (two children of our own + one neice in tow) I was also desperately hoping they did take away.

Fortunately they actually made a great cup of coffee and certainly one Id recommend.  The young girl that served me obviously knew what she was doing, because she ground the beans once Id ordered, tamped it with an actual tamper and it had a nice dense foam to it and made it to the strength I liked. Ahhh.... my faith was restored somewhat in outback Australia, thank goodness!

So Tina got her little break away from it all and got to meet some lovely Australian heffers.

Maybe a good rest in the country is what you both need.

Thanks Martybean - that was the very first thing I tried, and - when that didnt work - I then tried programming the single and double pour buttons in the hopes that that would work: nada.

Even Debbie at Sunbeam said that Id tried everything I could and that she thought it must have been the electrickery stuff...

Hi Ho, hi ho, its off to service I go...

Im still in mourning, even though I dont lose the machine until Friday - will it look silly if I pack it in the car and take it up to Narrabri with me for the three days: even a coffee machine deserves a little time away, dont you think???
Your dark but yet light since of humour is refreshing...

I just trust that after the break, the the machine is actually happy to return... It may in fact crack a right good tanty, and refuse to speak and do nothing but sulk...

Hi Hoyks, you could try the factory reset function it goes like this.
1 with the machine plugged in but the power button off, no lights on the machine
2 Press and hold down the manual button.
3 While still holding the manual button, briefly press the power button and release
    4 Release the manual button.

After doing this step try resetting the single and double pour settings just as angermanagment described. If you still have no luck I would say your machine is faulty.

I found a decent coffee last time I was in Terrigal.
When I went back that afternoon I was served by someone else and got the usual rubbish.

Later that night while ogling the coffee equipment in a closed cafe I got to talking with another apparently strange person looking at the same cafe.
Turns out she was the new owner.

We naturally started talking about coffee and I told her about my two coffees that day.
She guessed who had made me the good one.

He was only young and I have no idea if he had any training but he did have passion.

Nope, nothings changed, unfortunately (well, since the last time I was there last November, anyway).

They do have a McCafe now so, although certainly not what Id class as a good coffee, at least their quality control (ie; automated machinery) and turnaround time on beans means that the coffee is just on passable.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, though, I think the problem with places a bit more remote like that is that, to have any of their staff trained properly in how to make coffee, theyd have to face sending someone on a 8 hour round trip to Sydney with overnight accommodation and expenses involved, etc so - for the average Bri-an who wouldnt know good coffee if they fell over it, it isnt worth the expense.

Having said that (and just to refute my benefit of the doubt statement above), I have been an CS Computer-Chair Trainee for the past four weeks or so and, on just the information I have gleaned on this site, I have improved my coffee making ability ten fold (I think) so really it only takes, I think, a desire to know how to do it and a bit of nouse, and you can get away from the dishwater they serve at some cafes/bakeries... Last time I brought coffee in Narrabri, it ended up out the window on the way out of town. And they had signs all along the way in for the last 30 k or so, we got excited but to no avail. They had this really good looking machine and couldnt drive it, can never understand a cafe will spend a small fortune on a machine then wont pay for training, anyhow that was about 6 years ago, it might be better now. I wouldnt hold your breath but. Good luck

    Eeek - 4 weeks!

I just not long ago got off the phone to Debbie at Sunbeam and she was absolutely lovely. Agreed that what I (and you all) suggested were good fault finding methods and commended me on the fact that I had tried a few different ways of fixing the problem rather than doing the norm, and just ringing them straight off the bat. Beautifuly lady!

The upshot is that I have to drop the machine off to our local service centre (she offered me to have the courier pick it up but, as of tomorrow, Im off to Narrabri for a couple of days holiday with the Outlaws so wasnt able to be here for a courier) and she had put a hurry up on the ticket for the repairer, so off to the fixers on Friday.

So, do we have an area for Coff-A-Holics on Instant whilst Waiting for their Machines to be Repaired on CS where I can discuss the pros and cons of Blend 43 and Jarrah Vienna, and the best McCafes in which to purchase a real (cough, cough) coffee???

    Ugh...

I had a 6910 problem too, (not the same as yours) and to sunbeams credit when i rang them a courier came and picked it up the next day, then a courier arrived with a brand new machine, only problem was that it was 4 weeks between pick up and drop off, other than the 4 week wait I could not fault the customer service.

The thanks is accepted, but after all that is what us CSs like 2nd to coffee.... Helping people ;D

Dont hold breath for a 1 week turnaround... Might be lucky, but aim for at least 10 working days, that way you will not be disappointed...

Either way, a heads up as to what happens Monday, and heres hoping that within 10 days you have even better news for us all.

    Take care.

Yes, definitely beeped twice after Id hit the single cup/double the second time, so I think Im doomed. First time, I didnt switch it on/off after saving the program, but the second time I did just to be on the safe side.

Fortunately, with having this following week off work, Ive got enough time to give them a call and wait (if necessary)...

Thanks for all your help, though, I really appreciate it - both you and Dennis.

Bugger - tried it AngerManagement but, unfortunately, didnt make a difference.

Looks like Ill be on coffee rations for a while - thank goodness Ive got a week off work on holidays: I may not be up to working on no decent coffe!
If you tried it and  the instructions made sence (Confirm with Manual) as being correct.

Oh, did it beep to acknowledge  that the setting had been saved ?   If  so and does not remember after power off, then a board problem 4 sure...

You may wish to try and not power off, but try for another coffee and see if it  retains the settings then ?

That would suggest a problem with the systems retaining settings and could be a dead cap on the board or a faulty chip. The main IC is a HT48R50A http://www.holtek.com/english/docum/uc/48x50_1.htm

Sunbeam may have another Master reset code... but I am unaware of it..

Best of luck and keep us informed.
