I ended up with the sunbeam 6910 package. Thanks to all who offered advice and answered questions in this thread.

Have owned a Del Opera for 6 years, only recently upgrading to a HX Bezzera for the convenience you dont get with a single boiler.

Im not ready to sell it yet though - now the traveller that comes on holidays with us! Does make excellent espresso and pretty good microfoam although the steam tip and the noisy pump would be my only complaints.

Definitely the best value IMHO in this price bracket. It may not be your last ever coffee machine but its sure a good place to start your journey if price is an issue! AFAIK they do have a 3-way but can only speak for the machines Ive seen. Some have suggested otherwise so its best to take it on a case by case basis.

I had a Dell Opera for about 4 years before I upgraded and it made coffees not that far off what you can achieve spending 3 times as much money. I think its the best coffee machine in its price bracket.

perfect machine to get started on, good idea to bypass the thermoblocks - just means you wont have to then upgrade to a boiler machine like the del Opera. The built in grinder is also pretty decent, especially for the amount of money you are paying for machine & grinder.

    Gday venno,
As far as I know most solenoid valves refered to on coffee machines are the three way valve. To answer your question properly the Nemox does have a 3 way valve. You should find it a terrific machine to start on your "snob" path. Mine is still going well although it is waiting to find out its future as we had a big does of upgradeitis recently and it is sitting idle while we work out who should take it to work.

    Good luck and happy learning,

    Thomas

Looks like the sale is back on again after a few words

One question for the experts (Greg you would probably now), does the nemox dell opera have a 3 way valve, the specs only make mention of a solenoid valve? Is it of terrible importance to have one?

    cheers

    Re: Nemox Dell Opera

Thanks for the suggestions guys, unfortunately I missed out on the machine (the bugger sold it, said I took too long to get back to him ).

    Looks like the hunt resumes.

Went and did the rounds of the box movers in perth today and the cheapest I could get a 6910 for was 590, grinder extra. Dammit.....

Looks like I may have to re-evaluate my budget.

    Welcome Venno!

Yep thats a good one to start with at that price. Do a site search up thataway ^^^^ and youll find a number of posts about it. Youll definitely be able to get better results from that than a thermoblock for the same money. If well cared for, machines such as these will be going long after the aluminium thermoblock machines have come back as soft drink cans! ;D

    Nemox Dell Opera

    Hi All

I am about to embark on my first ever purchase of an espresso machine. I am looking to get a decent secondhand machine to keep costs down while I learn the art.

I have been offered a secondhand Nemox Dell Opera (all working and well cared for, 3yr old) that has a built in grinder and brass boiler for $300. Would this make a good first machine, does anyone have any experience of this model. I am a bit nervous of buying secondhand but in my price range a new machine would be a thermoblock and Id rather have a decent boiler model (I hope my reasoning stacks up to scrutiny ).

    Cheers
Working...
