Re: Backflushing question - Silvia
Thats absolute rubbish Ed.
Keep the pulses short to protect the 3 way valve. Your service bloke will love a dirty machine as it will give him a stream of easy money...
Have a read of http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1223337113/0 if you need any further info....

Backflushing question - Silvia
Hi,
Ive had my Silvia for about a month now and have not done any backflushing (except for water flushes)
I recently took my machine back to the dealership to have the pump support fixed.
I managed to speak to the repairer as he was fixing it. (He only works with Rancilio).
He said (as per the manual), Definately dont backflush it with a cleaner. Water is fine. But the cleaner will enter the boiler and is very hard to rinse it out.
I cant remember how he explained it, but he said that commercial machines have something that the Silvia doesnt have that prevents the chemical from entering the boiler.
But in saying that, I have read alot of articles on Backflushing the Silvia and am beginning to worry that if I dont, my 3 way will clog or become dirty from coffee residue.
Just wondering if anyone had any better insight than I do into this :P
I guess my concern is not straining the pump, but rather having cleaning chemical enter the boiler.
Thanks
