    Re: Warm Weather Brewing

In Melbourne the weather on Monday and Tuesday (Melbourne Cup Eve and Cup Day), was very warm, high 20s to low 30s....and I found myself producing absolute gushers.

I adjusted the grind on the Iberital for a finer grine and ended up having to go.....where its never been before, way, way, way off the scale.

    Strange.

    Hi again Paul,

Yeah, its an unexpected result alright. I dont think the small changes in ambient temperature of even up to +/- 30 deg would have any measurable effect on the internal dimensions between grinding burrs.... if anything, it would be in the region of microns.

    Interesting outcome though .

    Hi Mal,

Its just so suprising , 3 notches on the rocky is quite a difference in grind, these are settings that would normally choke my machine ( I guess there is some due to thermal epansion of the blades etc) however Im not complaining Im enjoying some superb coffee.

    Hi Paul,

Yes, I have noticed the same tendency here too in S.E. QLD. Im not really sure about why though..... could be something to do with changes to bean porosity perhaps, as the beans get warmer they might become slightly more porous and allow the flow of liquid through the grounds with less effort :-?.

Maybe one of our fellow snobs has a suitable professional background that might allow for a more scientific explanation of what is going on..... Anyone?

    Warm Weather Brewing

    Hi,

The last week or so has been getting quite warm in Sydney , Ive had to adjust my Grind on my rocky down 2-3 notches which is quite a large adjustment normally . This reduction in grind has made for some amazing shots brilliant crema .
I guess the only factors that might contribute to this would be the ambient temperature of the grinder and the beans as I always heat the rest of the equipment(portafilter etc ) up to temperature.

Has anybody else noticed this , as well.

Working...
