Re: sunbeam cafe series knock box

Awww...shucks...I was thinking they looked pretty similar...the Breville one is a two piece contraption and I can see no way of separating the tube from the plastic insert bit if it happens to break after much intense knocking out of pucks.

      Hi All

Got a Sunbeam Bang Bang on the weekend from Harvey Norman in Belmont (suburb of Perth) for $45, suggest it was the last one.

Its big and its solid and it makes my grinderstein look like a toy.

Dont get me wrong, I agree with all the positives of the stein, its just too little to keep up.

Re: sunbeam cafe series knock box

This is the first I heard about them being discontinued. given that this thread is 4 months old maybe theyre NLA??
anyway I like my bang bang for one main reason - the rubber base. I didnt realise how much difference it made until i noticed a sheet of paper on the bench behind it jumping in the air every time I knocked my group handle into it. it absorbs the impact nicely - you can give it a good solid whack without it sounding like the bench is about to break, unlike some other knock box designs ive seen. not sure if any other brands have something to absorb the impact but I think its a useful feature...

Re: sunbeam cafe series knock box

          +1 here

love the Sunbeam Bang Bang - I use it also to bang out my drip filter - not many others are big enough to do that and I hardly ever have to empty it out - and gotta love all that rubber deadening - very civilised !!

Typical isnt it - yet another great product discontinued ...

Perhaps they should have kept the knock box on range and discontinued the 6910  :-?  ;D

Grindstein all the way for me, empty daily, as you should ( who wants a weeks worth of stinking mouldy pucks next to the shrine) easy to clean (comes up like new with no effort) unobtrusive and robust, yep I like em.

I just re-read this and thought it didnt make much sense - so to clarify for anyone not familiar with the design - theres a notch in the rubber base and air shoots out from there when you knock the group handle on it...

Grindenstein have a similar feature not rubber, but a ring of some type of softish plastic recessed around the perimeter of the base.

I havent formally counted but I reckon mine holds at least 6 pucks (doubles). They just keep on tucking themselves in there. Its the Tardis of knockboxes!
                    IIRC they hold 7.

I have another Aussie made one; the Coffees Been knock box.
I got it from Talk Coffee as part of a package of extras when I bought my machine and grinder.

Its very well made and holding up well after about 3 years of daily use.
