For what its worth Adrian, now that you have a "spare"
Boiler, it might now be worth your while to test out a couple of machine/engineering shops in your neighbourhood to see if they can remove the old element and drill out, etc to suit an element that is more easily acquired. The Mokita uses an almost identical element and can be obtained relatively easily, along with new seals, nuts, etc so that might be one alternative.
Dont give up on the old one yet, it just might be able to get you out of hot water ;D sometime in the future,
