by the way, just want to give kudos to Greg Pullman in this thread! never seen anyone so quick to offer helpful advice (and quality confirmation) about a competitors product in my whole life!

...now if Lisa was sold on the colours, Id get one of your barista tampers!
Thanks coffeehorse, but Id be surprised if anyone serious about customer service would do things much differently. You say "competitors" - I guess in a sense thats true but the way I look at it everyones different, so are tampers, so theres no perfect tamper for everyone. At the end of the day the right piece of equipment for an individual (whatever it may be) is often more about personal preference and individual requirements than one being absolutely better than another. Some CSers have tried our tampers and found they prefer something different, and the last thing Id want is for someone to get pushed into one of ours if it wasnt really what their requirements suggested would be the best choice for them.

So while Ive tried to tick as many boxes as possible with the range I have and honestly believe many would find them to their satisfaction, Ill always been quite happy to recommend an alternative if I feel its going to be more suitable for their requirements.

Ive had an espro for about 5 years too and I make sure I never drop it.
Not because I dont want it to break.....its because I dont want a broken toe or a broken floor tile more like it !

You can always rope it to one of your coffee machine legs.

I am very careful not to drop my Pullman Tamper because I am not convinced yet about the structural integrity of our house ;D.

NB: If a Pullman makes a thunk, youve dropped it. If an Espro makes a thunk, you havent dropped it.
    This should go in a Q & A.

Glad youre back on top of things Addicted!

Mine has always made a loud thunk instead of a click. I suggest that this is the perfect sound for an espro to make.

All is well, Espro has been replaced. However, after going though the entire stock of the supplier all we could find was a Espro with a thunk rather than a click.
Click or thunk, Im very happy. They are a great weighted tamper and I really enjoy using it.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my post.

Well the espro website does say they offer:

1 year no-questions-asked factory replacement warranty

Call them and see what the go is.

Our Espros certainly have a click but have lost the audible pop they used to emit when they were new. Theyre also probably been dropped more times than Id like to admit. (According to the body, people have been doing that awful tamper-hit-the-group-handle) thing. Ergh

Ive used two different Espros and I have never heard * (noticed) one click. When it bottoms out you have reached 30 pounds.

*Mind you I used both in a fairly noisy cafe environment

I managed to drop my first Espro in a butter fingered moment, and it lost its clicky mojo .
It still moves up and down, but there is no way of knowing when youve reached the 15kg mark any more, so I bought myself another one to replace it, and Im much more careful about keeping my grip on on this one .

wait.... You say audible performance. Does the handle still depress at 30 pounds or is there no travel at all. Espros werent designed to let you hear 30 pounds rather feel 30 pounds.

I would be surprised if the ratchet mechanism broke after one fall.

    Greg

Despite the fall to the timber floor which wasnt very dramatic, the espro has no external damage - just lost its click during the trip. Interesting to hear that other Espros can hit the dirt without much impact on their audible performance. Perhaps my Espros click was ready to leave the confines of the tamper before I bought it .

I believe I have had my click since 2005; I make sure I dont drop it. I have used it approx three times a day at least six days a week. My son also purchased one to use it his coffee cart here in CBN. I notice that his has a few chips from the side of the tamper but that may be from tapping the side of the group handle. Further, I notice that he has an industrial type rubber mat on the floor so that he can catch items on their first bounce. 8-)

I unfortunately dropped my Pullman Barista a couple of months ago when I knocked it off its perch on top of the machine, it bounced off the cupboard and then hit on the corner of the base...  Its now got a lovely little dent on one edge.

Obviously the fault of the workmanship - can I get a replacement, Greg???

Only joking - it was entirely my fault.  I just figure now its been Di-lemmad and has character!

However, it does go to point out that even with something so robust and sturdy, it still took a beating, let alone if it had something mechanical inside.

    Cheers
    Di
