Re: Portafilter pressure gauge?
I bought mine at a local place called Combustion Instrumentation. I think quite a few places sell pressure gauges, you just have to find one that fits your measurement needs.
ie 100 kPa = 1 bar so I bought a gauge that measured from 0 to 1600 kPa.
If you have much trouble finding a relatively cheap gauge let me know and you can borrow mine. I could possibly send the whole thing but with the brass fittings it weighs a fair bit.
See how you go.

Re: Portafilter pressure gauge?
Interesting idea Framey. Where did you source a gauge so cheaply? Coffeeparts and such places they are $70 alone.

Re: Portafilter pressure gauge?
I made something similar to the picture below for about $30. Besides the gauge, I think the ball valve tap was the most expensive bit. I had a snubber put into the gauge or you could get them liquid filled.
You dont have to include a tap. It seems the general consensus is that if you are testing pressure without allowing water to escape (like a blind filter) it will show a pressure approx 1 bar higher than if you were allowing water to flow through either a coffee puck, or in my case a ball valve tap.

Re: Portafilter pressure gauge?
Does the carimali take a standard 58mm commercial pf?
From what Ive heard, pressure adjustment isnt likely to be a regular thing, but its nice to be able to check every now and then.

Portafilter pressure gauge?
Hi all,
One thing Ive been trusting to luck and/or previous services with the Carimali is the brew pressure. I only have a boiler pressure gauge on the machine, and so no way to check brew pressure without test equipment.
Before I run out and lay down a cool $100 on a portafilter with gauge, does anyone have any suggestions on alternatives? Does anyone hire these out? Anyone in Melb with a Carimali-compatible one theyd be prepared to rent to me for a day? Or is pressure adjustment likely to be sufficiently regular that its worth just buying one?
Cheers,
