  • Tampering ;) with the Espro

    Happy New Year, folks !!!

I have an Espro tamper, which I am quite happy with, but would like to modify...I like the handle and the 30lb click mechanism, but want to add a Pullman base fitted to the Syesso baskets.
I have emailed Greg about this, and he suggested that I first try to remove the base from the handle....I found references on a couple of websites that indicate the unit cannot be disassembled.
Has anyone actually tried to pull one of these apart, perhaps for repair?? ....I am loathe to try this for fear of ruining mine.
The only option if this cant be done would be for Greg to tap a thread into the original base ... I fear the result may end up way too heavy ???
    thansk for any input,
    cheers

Underneath the Espro badge may be a hex bolt holding the unit together. Im not sure....only one way to find out

There is indeed a hex nut under the badge, but undoing it wont get the handle away from the base. Ive tried to do this before on an old broken one. There is something else within the tampers innards that holds the handle and base together, I just havent found it yet.

        Re: Tampering with the Espro

It could well be something like a spring-loaded pin in the lower part of the tamper thats compressed, then slid inside the handle assembly where it could expand into a holding cavity. Thered be no way to get it apart without breaking it. I recall they advertised it as a one piece unit, and obviously it cant be literally one piece of metal that has moving parts but I guess in the sense that it cant be disassembled.

yep...as much as it pains me, it seems there is no non-destructive way to dismantle the thing...Greg, I will email you to discuss costs of threading the base to install one of yours, matched to the Synesso baskets...I think I will go with the convex base too.
          Thanks for your input, guys..

Why not just get a Demaral? adjustable for pressure and depth- if that tickles your fancy
