Whoops sorry for the late reply, only just found this. Yep should be able to do that if you're still interested. Bakelite does have different textures so it may not match the style of yours but I'll do what I can. Flick me an email enquiries-nospam@gregpullman.com and we can sort the details.

Faema Faemina
Greg - I am presently looking at a Faema Faemina Red Label - the early model with brown bakelite handles. One of the handles is cracked & requires replacing to bring the machine up to full pristine condition. Could you make a matching bakelite handle and one that also matches the existing bakelite colour? I could send you a photo for assessment. A new handle would require a circular hole to allow for a spigot to the stainless steel shaft to enable the bakelite hand to be pushed home? I have a couple of days to make up my mind as to whether I buy the machine - so here is hoping you receive this in time. Regards & thank youOriginally posted by gregpullman View PostIf you really want one done I can make one for you. Our tampers are normally custom-made anyway so its no big issue to do custom work beyond the scope of just tampers. So long as the material can be sourced and turned (yes and yes to Bakelite) we can potentially make them out of anything.
In the past weve done tamper handles in Sheaoak, Zebrano, Olivewood and Cocobolo to name a few, a Deluxe base in Aluminium Bronze and have also done a few porta-filter handles in the past for people whove wanted something special. This one for example we did for a Faema Faemina which originally had a plastic handle that had cracked - the replacement was done in ebony which came up looking a treat.

In colour, i.e. browny colour, as opposed to the branches from bakelite trees :P Nah, as opposed to one of the rainbow varieties KK posted. I didnt even know it was available in colours so had to ask and thus specify here which material I was talking about.

Back on topic now... :Originally posted by 303D2A22373F580 link=1262846653/0#0 date=1262846653Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes a good tamper in Bakelite?
Ive just made some phone calls and can source some natural Bakelite locally. How much the overall product ends up costing is unknown but looking at the material cost it should be substantially LESS than $320, in either a Barista or Deluxe tamper.
Of course being a somewhat brittle material youd have to handle with care - its not really the sort of material Id choose for a tamper so I doubt Id be making this a regular in our product range, but as a one-off its feasible.
Let me know if you want one.

Re: Anyone make a Bakelite handled Tamper?
Provided the final product is well bonded it should turn OK. Alternatively a complete bone would work provided we can stay within the dense outer cortical region - you may still need some sort of filler for the less dense intermedullary region towards the centre, such as an epoxy resin. Just dont ask us to send one overseas - I think it might raise a few eyebrows in Customs!
