If you were thinking to get yourself a Pullman Tamper, the price not only covers the better fit, but also the quality workmanship and lovely wood, both of which are beauties to behold.
After a few seconds reflection Ive decided to stick with what Ive got, cant see that I will see any improvement with a base .50mm larger than what I have.
My 9 year old Reg Barber is almost an Heirloom, nicely balanced, the turned Bubinga handle fits perfectly and is taking on a very nice patina, imho its a thing of beauty, better the devil you know.

They help a give a bit more consistancy and in the case of Tamper novices they really know when they tamp sideways as a well fitted one will jam
If you are stuck for ideas then a couple of kgs of this to share http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au/Vi...-blue-mountain or a hand grinder if you dont have one to save dialing the MM in and out for Stovetops or Syphon.

Mornin all, my current tamper measures 58mm spot on, my basket 59mm, so I guess the question in my mind is would I notice a difference if I have one made up with a base that fits a little more precisely, i.e. 58.50mm or is the difference negligible?
Thoughts please folks.
In reality the answer is No it wont make that much of a difference
You can still make great coffee
It will however be a little less messy having a more precise fit tamper and will also tamp the outer edges better thus reducing changeling
If you have no problems with your current tamper & pulling great shots then you must be doing everything well [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Thanks KK, got a birthday coming up and SWMBO asked the question, a new tamper would be nice but Im finding it hard to justify spending $150 +, never have a problem with channelling, so maybe will put the thought on the back burner. :-/
